About You


As Legal Counsel, you will serve as a proactive, service-focused point of contact for internal clients and external parties advising on general university matters, with a particular focus on education regulation. If you are successful in the role, you will work on matters such as advising on education regulations, student work placement agreements, delivery with international partners, insurance, trademarks, philanthropy, student clubs and governance and marketing.   You will provide legal and strategic advice, support the negotiation, drafting, and development of agreements, policies, processes, and all related legal documents while building and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, you will maintain and enhance a suite of template documents, manage the use of external legal advice, create regular updates on relevant legal matters, and ensure compliance with all RMIT policies and procedures.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:

  • Experience working as a lawyer in the area of general commercial law and contracting. In-house or private practice experience in the higher education sector is highly desirable.

  • Experience advising on regulatory issues, and problem solving in a legal and business context.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering business-relevant and timely legal advice through quality engagement with stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to operate with a high level of confidentiality in a diplomatic manner with the ability to lead and influence others.

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders from a range of experience levels.

Qualifications

  • Holds a current practising certificate as an Australian lawyer under the Legal Profession Uniform Law.
