ART

What We Do

Push your artistic talent to the limit on a team of world-class environment, character and concept artists who strive to innovate and inspire.

What You'll Do

Epic Games is searching for a Senior Character Texture Artist to work on several initiatives as part of our collaboration with Disney. You will work directly with a world-class character art team to help create exciting, compelling characters that embody their iconic roots. In this role you will create top-quality textures and materials for use in gameplay, cinematics, and marketing material. You will have the opportunity to innovate and contribute to the visual style of characters as part of building a rich and engaging interactive world.

In this role, you will

  • Create textures and materials for characters, and occasionally for accessory assets based on concept art or reference photos
  • Collaborate with the Art Director and Leads, and be able to give and receive feedback
  • Texture characters in a variety of styles. You will primarily be working with stylized characters but should be comfortable doing photo-realistic work when needed
  • Build materials and develop the look and surface quality of characters in different styles
  • Work with programmers and artists to optimize content across multiple platforms
  • Be forward-thinking and have the ability to help the team refine our character workflow for scalability

What we're looking for

  • Experience working on AAA games for console, PC, and/or mobile, including a strong reel/portfolio showing executed game textures and shading
  • Ability to bring characters to life with rich and appealing textures and materials
  • Intimate knowledge of color theory, PBR lighting, and stylized texturing techniques
  • Expert proficiency in Substance Painter/Designer and Photoshop
  • Strong understanding of character look development and experience creating and editing materials in UE4/5
  • Experience adapting to and innovating on a variety of styles and techniques, especially stylized and animated games
  • Understanding of memory and performance constraints, optimizing textures while maintaining high quality
  • Strong organic texturing skills (human faces, clothing, believable creatures) and hard-surface texturing skills (armor, weapons)
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator with strong understanding of real time workflows and upstream/downstream dependencies
  • Bonus: familiarity with Maya, Mari, and/or Marmoset and some experience with character modeling

This role is open to multiple locations in North America (including CA & WA).
