INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER INTERN

What You'll Do

The Core Tech Production Engineering (ProdEng) team is looking for a Backend/Infrastructure Engineering Intern to join us. You’ll work on tooling that helps backend service teams at Epic build services that are reliable and scalable, and helps them in shipping changes to our players as fast as possible while improving our internal developer experience.

In this role, you will

  • Develop new features for our internal load-testing tool in Go and JavaScript (Vue)
  • Help service teams efficiently scale their services by investigating (and doing engineering work to expose!) what metric is the best indicator of load for a particular service
  • Improve the resiliency of many services at once by adding new safety features (for example, loadshedding to Epic’s internal gateway product) and helping teams to onboard with our latest reliability best-practices

What we're looking for

  • Experience with Go and JavaScript preferred, Java is a plus (ProdEng services are written in Go, but Epic has tons of Java services)
  • Someone who wants to know the true ‘why’ behind a service outage, not just how to fix it
  • Basic understanding of Linux and containers
  • Interest in Kubernetes, OpenTelemetry, and other CNCF projects like Helm, Argo, and Envoy
  • A strong desire to help others (ProdEng works with service teams all over Epic)
  • Someone who wants to get exposed to the inner-workings of delivering backend services that support millions of players simultaneously

This internship has a flexible start date in 2025. Recruitment will be ongoing until teams find an ideal match. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the posting location for the duration of the internship. For more information about Epic’s Early Career Program, visit epicgames.com/earlycareers.
