Role Overview:

As day-to-day partner with the business, trusted confidant and colleague advocate, the HR Business Partner works with Pharmacy Operations Directors, Pharmacy Managers and their teams within corporate operations in 440 stores Nationally.  The HRBP defines and implements people strategies that are aligned with business plans, company culture and values. This role supports and enhances the organizations Human Resources by providing generalist expertise across all functional areas of HR (colleague engagement, employee/labour relations, staffing, talent management, compliance, total rewards, leadership development, etc.) to enable business results. This role supports all pharmacies within all banners of Loblaw Inc grocery stores.  It involves having knowledge and understanding of multiple policies and procedures as they would be applied to a wide variety of workforce populations (union and non-union, corporate and franchise).  The HRBP is required to have experience and expertise in guiding and advising leaders in a unionized environment and be able to interpret and provide direction in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Provides guidance, direction, and advice to the client regarding employment related issues including but not limited: leadership development, talent and performance management, change and people management issues & communication. To the interpretation of company policies & procedures, recruitment & selection strategy, performance management, terminations, strategic planning, and benefits administration; collective agreement administration and labour relations
  • Connect regularly with 4 Sr Directors, Operations and 21 Directors of Operations to support their regional zones nationally
  • Visits stores on a regular basis in all regions
  • Leads projects to develop programs and deliver on initiatives related to business strategic people plan
  • Partner with the business and Specialist groups on finding alternative ways to incent colleague to drive performance - input into long term rewards and retention strategy (i.e., Pay for performance)
  • Works closely with compensation to implement minimum wage changes and align non-union wage scales
  • Conducts ad-hoc review for off cycle pay equity and off-cycle increases
  • Support the delivery and deployment of HR programs and processes and participate in coaching and guiding in functional and cross-functional initiatives (Performance Management, Compensation, HiPo, Succession Planning, Engagement Survey, and the Performance Review Cycle)
  • Plan and facilitate annual mid-year and year end performance calibrations with directors and pharmacy managers
  • Plan, communicate and run retail talent review annually
  • Plan, communicate and facilitate Loblaw Leadership Engagement & Autonomy in Pharmacy (LEAP) program and Student Engagement Program (STEP).
  • Partner with the recruitment team and the business to develop proactive strategies to address the staffing needs of the client and to ensure the client group is fully staffed with a diverse workforce
  • Operate as a key enabler to the business as it drives engagement, Blue Culture and our b3 initiatives by counseling, guiding, facilitating, and allowing the business to own colleague engagement and the sustainment of culture.
  • Recognizes barriers to success and facilitates proactive dispute resolution that supports a performance driven culture. Uses judgment supported by human resource competence and practical experience to raise matters as required.
  • Investigate colleague complaints and Integrity action line cases
  • Contribute to continuous improvements & standard processes to influence human resources strategies
  • Ensures that the interests of employees and company are considered in accordance with HR policies and applicable government laws and regulations – i.e.: ESA, Human Rights Code
  • Offer coaching & support management on leadership development, talent and performance management, change and people management issues & communication
  • Assist the client in achieving their goals by identifying human resources and organizational development issues and by leading the analysis & diagnosis of client needs;
  • Day to day partner with client, trusted confidant and colleague advocate
  • Responsible for day-to-day Labour Relations support in partnership with pharmacy operations, grocery HRBPs and LR team
  • Provide intel to ensure LR and business are aware of trends and issues in preparation for arbitrations and negotiations
  • Provide tools and resources through the HR Resource Sharepoint site for directors
  • Mentors and supports day-to-day work of the Sr HR Coordinator and Talent Coordinator

What You’ll Need:

  • Equivalent combination of education and employee relations experience and an achievement of CHRP designation or post graduate degree preferred
  • 8-10 years progressive HR Business Partnering experience with demonstrable knowledge in client relation management
  • Highly effective and persuasive personality, be a standout colleague and leader and an excellent facilitator of action planning
  • Experience in a retail and unionized environment
  • Experience with budget planning; financial and business sense
  • Experience and knowledge of ESA and Competition Law across all provinces within Canada
  • Proven ability to maintain composure and manage stress in a high-pressure, fast-paced work environment
  • Must be strategic, have a good professional presence, and possess strong planning and organizational skills and experience leading projects.
  • Ability to work toward a future vision / state without having all necessary details
  • Ability to interact with all levels with comprehensive consultative, partnering, facilitating, and influencing/negotiating skills
  • Ability to interpret conceptual or loosely defined business or project objectives and assess impact on HR
  • Strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid digital literacy including Excel, Word and PowerPoint required
  • Strong analytic skills and superior ability to problem-solve
  • Excellent dedication to customer service with sound sense of urgency
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, requiring little direction
  • Travel Required
