The Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) is seeking a motivated and experienced Business Advisor to join the South Central ISBDC team in Bloomington. This position plays a key role in supporting small businesses throughout a 10-county region, focusing on business plan development, market research, financial planning, and business growth.

Salary: $55,000

Sick Time: 3.7 hours each pay (paid every two weeks).

Vacation Time: 5.34 each pay for first 2 years, then increases to 6.15 after 2 years.

9 Paid holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.

Winter recess: The College also observes an official closing of 4 standard work week days between the observed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day holidays. This is known as Winter Recess.

The mission of the ISBDC (Indiana Small Business Development Center) Network is to have a positive and measurable impact on the formation, growth, and sustainability of small businesses in Indiana, and to develop a strong entrepreneurial community. The business advisor’s role in accomplishing this mission is to be a consultant to small business clients to help them begin a business and/or to encourage growth and sustainability of small businesses. The Advisor reports to the South Central ISBDC Regional Director.

Responsibilities:

· Provide one-to-one client counseling in the area of business plan development; financial statements; market research/plan development; business startup assistance, and connect with other advisors.

· Facilitate and make referrals between entrepreneurs and professional services providers, referring clients, as appropriate, to ISBDC independent contract consultants and other outside specialists for additional support services.

· Collaborate with other innovation centers to build our regional entrepreneurial ecosystem.

· Collaborate with Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington and the Gayle & Bill Cook Center to advise students in our academic programs & support Cook Center programs.

· Promote and utilize ISBDC programs and services. This may require speaking at area events, communication with clients and community partners to support educational workshops/webinars.

· Travel throughout the 10-county geographic area. Early morning and/or evening meetings may be required for programs, events where we need to be present.

· Attend required ISBDC and Ivy Tech training programs, participate in advisor/team meetings.

· Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education:

· Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, accounting, sales, marketing or a related field or equivalent business experience including at least 2 years of small business ownership or management participation required. Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business or related fields. preferred.

Experience:

· Three years with progressively responsible positions in business and/or industry management required. Experience with small businesses and their financial journey preferred.

· Experience in the following systems: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Use of the Internet.

· Experience in preparing/reviewing business plans and assisting with preparation of financial documents, advice on financial projections, financial tools and possibly loan applications.

· Experience working with ISBDC and Cook Center.

Skills:

· Business Acumen, finance specialties, determining specific needs of the customer, action plan development, presentations, client relationship management, excellent written and verbal communication, networking, self-directed learning, self-starter.
