ROLE PURPOSE

At Tate & Lyle, caring for our planet is a top priority as one of the three pillars of our purpose of Transforming Lives Through the Science of Food.  The climate change crisis continues to be society’s most significant long-term challenge and Tate & Lyle is committed to being proactive and collaborative in rising to meet the challenge.  This role is responsible for developing new programs, large-scale projects and engaging Tate & Lyle’s value chain to meet our sustainability targets, commitments and maintain compliance.  The ideal candidate must be data savvy, collaborative and experienced in program development with demonstrated success of developing and executing programs from the ground up.  This role will report to the Director of Sustainability.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop sustainability initiative strategy informed by data analytics, trends and business needs.
  • Effectively translate high level business needs into executable projects in collaboration with internal cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, engineering, ICD, procurement, etc.) and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present ideas, initiatives and impact to key stakeholders, including senior executives, functional leaders, employees and external partners.
  • Prioritize initiatives and projects with the greatest impact while balancing resource demand to ensure success.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects from ideation to completion ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets and key deliverables including reportable impact.  Effectively communicate project impact and benefits to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the prioritization of product of life cycle analyses and product carbon footprints in coordination with the sustainability team and operations and ICD engineering.  Effectively communicate progress and results to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Coach and develop functional leaders and project teams to understanding of their role in Tate & Lyle’s sustainability journey, enable ownership and drive accountability.  Prepare and deliver training to a diverse audience.
  • Support the business team in realizing identified sustainability opportunities and mitigating risks through functional initiatives and projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrixed environment to successfully deliver results in support of Tate & Lyle’s sustainability strategy and business needs.
  • Represent Tate & Lyle in external working groups, committees and engagement opportunities.
  • Support additional programs, initiatives, and reporting requirements in support of Tate & Lyle’s sustainability goals.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

Success will be measured through:

  • The ability to establish and maintain highly effective and engaged teams and external partnerships to deliver results.
  • Development of strategic initiatives and specific projects to meet Tate & Lyle’s sustainability commitments, targets and customer expectations.
  • Successful project identification and team engagement to deliver quantifiable results meeting set timelines, budgets and key deliverables. 
  • Effectively communicate project impact and benefits to internal and external stakeholders.

LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS

  • Adhere to all defined local environmental laws, regulations and permit requirements.
  • Understand applicable sustainability and greenhouse gas reporting requirements (e.g., GHG Protocol, SBTi, WBCDS PACT, etc.)

SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability or related fields of study.
  • 10+ years of progressive responsibility within the sustainability function or a related role with demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to effectively communicate current sustainability trends, opportunities and risks to inform Tate & Lyle’s sustainability strategy.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with experience in strategic planning with demonstrated ability to manage and execute complex projects in a cross-functional team setting.
  • Demonstrated experience conveying complex, technical requirements, and results to non-subject matter experts to gain consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively lead stakeholders through ideation, strategy setting, program implementation and impact storytelling.
  • Highly self-motivated individual capable of managing and delivering on multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong presentation/public speaking skills to effectively community Tate & Lyle’s sustainability strategy, program, and results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead multidisciplinary teams toward a common goal. 
  • A genuine passion for and commitment to promoting sustainable business practices to contribute to a more resilient global supply system.
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time.
