Job Posting Title:

VP Product Management

Req ID:

10155058

Job Description:

Lead product for the core Disney+ and Hulu streaming experience while simultaneously building Disney's Creator Platform from the ground up. This is a dual-mandate role: run and evolve the flagship consumer streaming product across Watch, Browse, and App Foundations, and stand up a new product and content ecosystem that brings Creator Generated Content (CGC) onto Disney+, deepens fandom around our IP, and makes our apps a more frequent, mobile-first habit.

On the streaming side, this leader owns the surfaces where hundreds of millions of viewers discover and watch content every day. On the creator side, the mandate is not to compete head-on with open platforms on breadth alone — it is to build a differentiated, premium creator experience rooted in Disney's unique IP advantage, using creator content as "connective tissue" between tentpole releases, deepening fan engagement, and creating more frequent reasons to open our products.

The two mandates reinforce each other: a world-class Browse and Watch experience is the distribution engine that gives creator content reach, and creator content is a high-frequency, lower-friction engagement layer that drives return visits to the core streaming product.

Team

This role leads the Streaming product organization — comprising Watch, Browse, and App Foundations — alongside the newly forming Creator Platform team. On the streaming side, the leaders of each area will report to this VP:

  • Watch — co-led by Guy Hepworth and Piya Kalra. Virgel Carvael, Charlie Moran, and Ashley Nixon report to Guy. Piya reports to Dave Lindsay with a dotted line to this VP.

  • Browse — led by Mike Avitabile.

  • App Foundations — led by Brent Roraback.

The Creator Platform team is a zero-to-one build reporting into this role, staffed and scaled in phases as product-market fit is validated.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Core Streaming Product: Watch, Browse & App Foundations

    • Set the product vision and roadmap for the end-to-end Disney+ and Hulu viewing experience across Watch, Browse, and App Foundations.

    • Own the Watch experience — playback, post-play, continue-watching, and the surfaces that keep viewers engaged session over session.

    • Own the Browse experience — Home, Details, Search, franchise and content discovery, merchandising, and personalization that connect users to the right content quickly.

    • Partner with Frontend on App Foundations — the platform capabilities, performance, and reliability that the entire consumer experience depends on.

    • Drive engagement, retention, and habit formation across the streaming portfolio, with particular focus on mobile-first behavior.

  • Define the Creator Platform Vision & Strategy

    • Define and evangelize a bold multi-year vision for Disney's Creator Platform across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and future surfaces.

    • Establish the strategic role of creator content within the broader portfolio: as a high-frequency, lower-friction layer of engagement that bridges attention between core releases, expands community, and supports daily habit formation.

    • Build the phased roadmap from bespoke creator deals to scaled creator participation, ensuring each phase validates product-market fit, operational readiness, and brand alignment before scaling further.

  • Build the Creator Program from Zero to One

    • Stand up the foundational creator program, beginning with curated/directly licensed creator partnerships and evolving toward a scaled creator ecosystem over time.

    • Define the product requirements, workflows, policies, and systems needed to support each phase of platform maturity:

    • direct licensing and premium creator onboarding

    • creator content ingestion and surface integration

    • creator profiles and community pages

    • open applications and review flows

    • creator monetization and reporting systems

    • Partner with business, legal, and operations teams to ensure product and program design are tightly aligned.

    • Leverage internal Disney content creators and Content (Nick) team partnerships as an early, differentiated source of supply.

  • Own Creator Product Features End-to-End

    • Lead product development for the core creator-facing and user-facing features that make the platform viable, including:

    • creator profiles and follow features

    • creator discovery and audience growth mechanisms

    • likes, shares, comments, and other interaction models

    • creator hubs, franchise/community pages, and creator-content integrations across the app

    • creator reporting, dashboards, and performance insights

    • incentive and monetization features, including revenue-related tooling and exposure systems

    • self-service upload, review, publishing, and content management tools

    • Ensure creator features are integrated across key consumer touchpoints such as Home, Details, Verts, Post-Play, Search, and future mobile-first surfaces — using the streaming surfaces this role already owns as the primary distribution engine.

  • Build Discovery, Reach, and Audience Growth Systems for Creators

    • Design the systems that help creators successfully reach their audiences on Disney platforms.

    • Build product capabilities that connect creator content to relevant users through:

    • title- and franchise-level discovery

    • creator follow and subscription mechanisms

    • post-play and adjacent-content recommendations

    • community pages and creator hubs

    • personalized creator recommendations

    • Ensure creators can build durable audience relationships, not just get one-off distribution.

  • Develop Creator Tooling, Reporting, and Dashboards

    • Build creator-facing reporting and dashboards that help creators understand performance and improve their content over time.

    • Define the right analytics products for creators, including views, engagement, completion/drop-off, audience reach, and other signals tied to platform goals and incentive structures.

    • Work closely with Data, Analytics, and Finance to determine what can and should be surfaced to creators in ways that are useful, fair, and aligned with Disney's broader content and analytics principles.

  • Own Incentive Systems and Monetization Enablers

    • Define the product and systems that support creator incentives across exposure, monetization, and platform participation.

    • Partner with Finance, Ads, and Business teams on mechanisms such as:

    • upfront licensing support

    • engagement-based payout models

    • creator funds

    • promotional placement and discoverability levers

    • sponsorship and brand integration opportunities where appropriate

    • Assess financial feasibility of incentive and monetization models, ensuring they are sustainable and aligned with portfolio economics.

    • Ensure incentives create healthy creator behavior and reinforce quality, safety, and premium content standards.

  • Build Scalable Self-Service Creator Operations

    • Lead the product strategy for creator self-service tooling, including application flows, onboarding, content upload, rights declarations, asset management, status tracking, policy education, and moderation workflows.

    • Build toward a scalable creator management experience that reduces operational burden while preserving Disney's brand and trust standards.

    • Design for the biggest umbrella of creators possible within brand and quality guardrails, ensuring strong user fit between creator content and Disney audiences.

  • Develop Internal & External Creator Relationships

    • Build strong relationships across TWDC with internal creator-adjacent partners, including franchises, content teams, editorial/programming, marketing, Parks, consumer products, and legal/trust teams.

    • Help shape the internal operating model for how Disney works with creators across brands and business units.

    • Build external relationships with emerging and established creators from other platforms, understanding their needs, motivations, and concerns as we build a compelling Disney proposition.

  • Drive Cross-Functional Execution at Scale

    • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Design, Data Science, Content Programming, Trust & Safety, Legal, Marketing, and Creator Relations to bring both the streaming and creator products to life.

    • Ensure Disney's creator ambitions are supported by scalable systems for content review, safety, analytics, monetization, and user engagement.

    • Serve as the connective tissue between the consumer product experience and the creator operating model.

  • Establish Success Metrics and Scale Discipline

    • Define a clear scorecard for success across both mandates, including:

    • content KPIs and creator content engagement and watch hours

    • mobile DAU impact and core streaming engagement/retention

    • creator retention and activity

    • cost per hour efficiency

    • creator satisfaction

    • trust & safety and compliance health

    • Build with phased discipline: testing assumptions, learning quickly, and scaling only where there is clear evidence of user and creator value.

  • Leadership, Coaching & Organizational Uplift

    • Lead and develop the Watch, Browse, and App Foundations leaders and their teams, while building the Creator Platform organization.

    • Mentor PMs and cross-functional leaders working in adjacent areas such as mobile, content discovery, community, and monetization.

    • Bring modern product rigor to a new domain, including zero-to-one thinking, experimentation, platform design, and cross-functional operating discipline.

    • Foster a culture of ambitious, thoughtful innovation that balances speed with quality, trust, and brand stewardship.

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years of product management experience, with significant leadership in consumer streaming, platforms, creator ecosystems, content platforms, social/video products, or adjacent digital media experiences.

  • 7+ years leading product teams or large cross-functional initiatives.

  • Proven experience both operating and scaling a mature consumer product AND building zero-to-one in ambiguous spaces.

  • Strong understanding of streaming discovery/playback experiences as well as creator ecosystems, community products, or marketplace-style dynamics.

  • Experience building product features for audience growth, creator tooling, analytics, incentives, or monetization.

  • Strong data fluency, including experimentation, engagement metrics, and dashboard/reporting products.

  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership across product, engineering, content, legal, trust & safety, and business teams.

  • Ability to balance creator authenticity, user value, and Disney brand standards.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Senior product leadership experience at a streaming service, creator platform, social media company, community product, or media-tech company.

  • Experience owning core consumer surfaces such as home, browse, search, or playback at scale.

  • Experience with creator monetization systems, creator funds, audience development tools, or content management platforms.

  • Familiarity with trust & safety, moderation systems, policy tooling, and rights workflows.

  • Experience building mobile-first content or community experiences.

  • Passion for Disney, fandom, storytelling, community, and the future of creator-led entertainment.

  • MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus.
