Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience in sterile processing or healthcare preferred.  Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of one (1) of the below must successfully be obtained within two (2) years of hire:

    • International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

    • Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) certification

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Provides excellent customer service and exhibits professional demeanor at all times.  

  • Manually sorts, disassembles, cleans and/or disinfects instruments, scopes and supplies per department protocol for assigned area(s).  Utilizes critical thinking skills in regards to workflow and assignment.

  • Performs quality control on instruments/scopes by checking for visual damage, sharpness, cleanliness, and working condition. Initiates process for repairs and/or replaces as applicable to assigned area(s).  Completes all daily production and quality control records.

  • Recommends ordering of new instruments as needed. Stocks surgical case cart area, processing, decontamination, and code blue cart shelving. Stocks and maintains code blue carts for immediate need and usage.

  • Continually checks for any outdates of sterile items and packaging integrity. Performs immediate-use steam sterilization of instrumentation using proper technique.  Prepares surgical instrument sets and/or trays. Prioritizes production of surgical case cart, floor stock trays and miscellaneous.

  • Wraps, packages, and sets up instrument trays per department protocol. Labels all instrument sets, peel-pouches, etc.

  • Efficiently and accurately loads sterilizers per department procedure and as applicable to assigned area(s).

  • Sterilizes instruments, scopes, supplies and linen using mandated sterilization processes per department protocol.

  • Ensures proper operation of sterilization units through daily quality control testing.

  • Inspects equipment as applicable to assigned area(s) for visible signs of malfunction and reports malfunction to leader in a timely manner.

  • Processes requisitions and requests for case carts, instrumentation and supplies in a timely manner.

  • Communicates deficits in supplies or instruments for case carts to appropriate stakeholders per department protocol.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.

Schedule: Evening Shift

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
