Program Overview

Internships available in, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Management Reporting and Analysis – focuses on John Hancock, as the US Division for Manulife Financial Corporation, quarterly results and helps prepare key deliverables included in Management’s Discussion and Analysis, Press Release and other key external deliverables

  • Financial Reporting – focuses on preparing the GAAP and Statutory financial statements for John Hancock’s insurance entities

  • Tax – focuses on quarterly and annual tax provision and returns for all entities within the John Hancock complex

  • Controls Center of Excellence – focuses on standardization and centralization of controls in the US Division, harmonization of risk assessments, key controls and overall control methodology over key processes and ensures best practices are utilized from each of the organizations

  • Internal Audit – focuses on providing independent assurance on the design and operating effectiveness of governance, risk, and controls supporting the achievement of John Hancock and Manulife business objectives

  • WAM Accounting & Reporting – focuses on the monthly production and analysis of financial results on an IFRS basis as well as process improvement and automation initiatives for the Wealth and Asset Management segment

  • Mandatory participation in program for the full 11 weeks

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Excels academically, preferably pursuing an Accounting or Finance related degree

  • Committed to attaining CPA certification in a global financial services organization

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Meticulous, well-organized, with excellent analytical skills

  • Self-starter and great teammate with a high level of initiative, strong work ethic and the ability to capture, synthesize, organize and report information

  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a fast paced and deadline-driven environment

  • Highly motivated

  • Strong digital literacy in Microsoft Office applications

Salary & Benefits

Salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
