Job Summary:

Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Security & Parking programs at all WellStar Health System facilities, including the selection and assignment of officers at WellStar hospital locations, training coordination, parking management, management of the security reporting systems and coordination of issues relative to security technology, equipment and alarm monitoring. The Security Manager will assist the Director of security with internal investigations and with the administration of the approved departmental budget. The Security Manager also coordinates and assists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of segments of a system-wide emergency management program as it relates to the security function. The Security Manager will assume authority in the absence of the Director of Security. The Security Manager will carry a WHS-issued handgun. This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or as necessary.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Training
- Develops and implements effective training programs for all Security team members.
- Creates and implements security related programs and presentations to assist in the protection of persons and property at WHS.
- Identifies the training needs of security staff. Researches and develops applicable classes and programs.
- Educates all security personnel on intelligence and other information concerning activities which impact the WHS Security mission.
- Assures security team members meet competency requirements. 20% Safety/Emergency Preparedness
- Participates in planning and conducting emergency management training for security personnel; participates in workshops, conferences, and test exercises.
- Works with other departments and personnel to promote emergency management programs; participates in special activities to ensure effective utilization of System resources In the event of an emergency.
- Assists in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of segments of System-wide emergency management program as it relates to the Corporate Security function; participating in special studies and surveys regarding Emergency Management. 20% Provide excellent customer service
- Acts with honesty and integrity with employees and customers, showing and speaking with respect for the rights of others, human dignity and local culture.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with facility staff members.
- Communicate effectively with diverse people including patients, visitors, employees and medical staff.
- Write accurate, clear, and legible reports. 20% Investigations
- Conducts investigations assigned by the Executive Director of Security Services involving incidents and events at WHS facilities, including internal affairs of the Security Department.
- Installs and maintains covert video surveillance systems as assigned by the Executive Director of Security Services in the interest of ongoing security related investigations at WHS properties.
- Stays current with all computer equipment, software and computer training needs of the security department.
- Should be well versed in investigative techniques, including interviews and interrogations, evidence handling and preservation, covert video surveillance techniques.
- Works closely with administrators, department managers and Human Resources in cases involving employees. 20% Leadership
- Acts as liaison to outside agencies (such as police departments, US Government agencies, other security companies).
- Completes audits and inspections of WHS properties as assigned by the Executive Director of Security Services. Provides documentation and recommendations on security related issues.
- Instructs WHS staff on security related topics. Performs in public forums without difficulty.
- Shares on call duties with other members of the Security Department administrative team on a rotating schedule, but may be called in event of serious incident requiring investigation or emergency preparedness needs.
- Ensures all departmental policies and procedures are kept updated. Updates and maintains departmental library as needed.
- Sets an example for other team members in uniform and personal appearance. 20%

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice or related discipline or Required or

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • AHA Heartsaver First Aid
  • Georgia Driver's License
  • Georgia Weapons Carry Permit
  • IAHSS Crt HC Security Sup Ofcr within 1 Year


Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Must possess Georgia Weapons Carry License issued under GA code 16-11-129 Required and
American Heart Association Heartsaver certification Required and
Ability to obtain IAHSS Supervisor Certification within 1 year of appointment or promotion and active membership in state/local IAHSS chapter Required and
Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license and have an insurable driving history Required and
Must pass psychological examination and physical fitness standards examination upon hire and annually thereafter Required and
CHPA or CPP Preferred

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5 years in private security or law enforcement management or related field. Required or
Experience with and knowledge of The Joint Commission and CMS Conditions of Participation Preferred

Required Minimum Skills:

Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly in both oral and written forms, and able to edit the written communications of subordinates.
Be familiar with the criminal and civil statutes relevant to security operations.
Must be able to function and make sound decisions, especially in emergency or highly stressful situations.
Ability to obtain certification to include: Taser, Defensive Tactics and Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM), AHA Heartsaver Course, FEMA 100, 200 and 700 courses or, have received and can document, equivalent qualifications (as determined by WHS Security Management), with current, applicable certifications.
Should be knowledgeable concerning supervisory skills and techniques and be able to apply that knowledge.
Ability to communicate effectively and present information to professionals, other interested groups, and/or individuals.
Must have the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and related emergency management information, be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, staff, public officials, civic and community groups, and the general public.
Must be able to accept responsibility, manage authority and maintain confidentiality of information .
