Corporate Treasury is responsible in finding the best ways for BMO to deploy its financial resources within regulatory guidelines and the bank's risk appetite. Treasury manages the allocation of financial resources, including liquidity, funding, and capital, ensuring financial resiliency and alignment with building a future-ready bank with leading profitability. Treasury teams are strategically focused, have a collaborative nature, and possess strong problem-solving skills.

Liquidity and Funding Management within Corporate Treasury is accountable for the measurement, analysis, and oversight of the Bank’s regulatory and internal liquidity and funding risks that arise from global businesses. The individual will partner with senior management to develop a solid understanding of business strategies and develop in-depth product, market and regulatory knowledge across retail and trading products. This knowledge will guide businesses and senior management on liquidity and funding risk mitigation, product development, and balance sheet optimization.

The candidate is part of a team that is accountable for the quantitative measurement and analysis of the bank’s liquidity and funding risks that arise from global business activities through the development of quantitative and stress testing models. This involves utilizing the latest modeling methodologies and applying those methodologies to build robust risk models to support Corporate Treasury’s liquidity risk framework and business decisions. 

The candidate will support the enhancement of the liquidity risk framework, including risk assessment, measurement, limit methodologies and development, report automation, and participation in cross-departmental projects. The role’s primarily focus will be on the execution of enterprise stress testing, including the implementation and maintenance of models and processes used to systematically measure funding and liquidity risks across the bank’s balance sheet.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Collaborate with Businesses, and Finance and Risk partners across the stress testing programs (e.g. enterprise-wide, Regulatory and ad-hoc stress testing) to evaluate the potential impact to the bank’s balance sheet, funding capability and liquidity position under stress scenarios.
  • Monitors, reviews and maintains performance of liquidity stress testing programs, addresses issues, and implements enhancements.
  • Participate in enhancement projects for stress testing programs to improve accuracy, efficiency and control based on evolving regulatory and internal stress testing requirements.
  • Recommends and implements liquidity and funding solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Supports development and execution of Enterprise’s liquidity and funding risk management strategy for executive and Board approval in collaboration with Market Risk Management to recommend liquidity and funding-related risk appetite limits.
  • Develops processes to identify, measure, and manage liquidity and funding risks in conjunction with Market Risk Management, businesses, and other Finance areas.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to assigned business/group on liquidity and funding matters including recovery and resolution planning.
  • Develops and maintains the model and assumption framework used to measure liquidity and funding risk and recommends changes (e.g. regularly reviews liquidity objectives, positions and assumptions, including for new business transactions).
  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making and understand risk drivers.
  • Recommends and implements solutions based on risk assessments, analysis of issues, and implications for the business.
  • Acts as liaison between stakeholders including industry specialty groups and regulators to align agendas, ensure a clear understanding of the business context, and advocate the Bank’s position on market or regulatory developments.
  • Provides input into the planning and implementation of liquidity and funding risk modeling activities and programs.
  • Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.
  • Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Monitors and tracks balance sheet usage, and addresses any issues.
  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
  • Analyzes data and information to provide insights into business product pricing and funds transfer pricing processes.
  • Supports development and execution of liquidity and funding-related strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
  • Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
  • Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency of financial products gained through extensive education and/or business experience
  • Knowledge and experience in financial modelling, including but not limited to, Excel, PowerBI, and SQL. SAS, R, Python, PySpark or other tools beneficial.

Salary:

$81,600.00 - $151,200.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
