Child Life Assistant – Part Time Weekend Days Inpatient: General Pediatrics and Step Down Unit
The Child Life Assistant (CLA) is responsible for performing both direct and indirect patient care duties in support of the scope of service for the Child Life Department in a competent manner under the direction of a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) and the Child Life Manager. This position will assist with inpatient planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming, activities, and volunteers for all 3 inpatient play spaces and at the bedside. Positions at this level independently administer therapeutic activities developed by professional staff. The CLA supports the developmental, emotional and psychosocial needs of pediatric patients, through age appropriate activities and engagement. The CLA is also responsible for promoting a family centered care environment in the healthcare setting, observing responses of children and families, reporting observations to the Child Life Specialist. The CLA Promotes a family-centered care philosophy and incorporates this philosophy into daily programming and care planning.
The CLA makes routine decisions including selecting age appropriate toys/activities, assessing level of volunteer supervision needed, and managing and or redirecting patient behaviors in assigned activity areas. The CLA is formally responsible for supervising volunteers and overseeing the activity centers during playroom hours.
 
Weekdays (Monday and Friday/flex)
9:00AM-5:00PM
Weekends (Saturday-Sunday)
9:00AM-5:00PM
 
 Preferred Criteria:
Bachelor’s Degree


Required Criteria :
Minimum of an Associate's Degree required, preferably in education, child development or closely related field
Prior volunteer experiences with children
Knowledge of Child development
Experience working in Pediatric patient care units (inpatient and outpatient)
