Position Overview

The System Administrator will play a crucial role in maintaining, upgrading, and securing our organization's IT infrastructure. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional with strong technical skills and a passion for ensuring the stability and reliability of our systems.

Work Location

Washington, DC (3-4 days remote)

Job Responsibilities and/or Success Factors

System Maintenance and Upgrades:

  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor system health and proactively address any issues to minimize downtime.

Network Management:

  • Configure and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and collaborate with the IT team to implement solutions.

Security Management:

  • Implement and maintain security protocols to safeguard the organization's data and systems.
  • Conduct regular security audits and respond to potential threats in a timely manner.

User Support:

  • Provide technical support to end-users, addressing hardware and software-related issues.
  • Assist in the onboarding and offboarding processes for employees.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures to protect critical data.
  • Test and validate backup systems regularly to ensure reliability.

Documentation:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Train other IT staff and end-users on system-related processes.

Vendor Management: 

  • Liaise with vendors to resolve technical issues and ensure the timely renewal of licenses and warranties.

Disaster Recovery Planning: 

  • Implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in the event of a system failure or security breach.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a System Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, network protocols, and security standards.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies and cloud platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSA, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, Network+) are a plus.
  • Proficiency in using specific tools such as Microsoft Admin Center, ConnectWise, Microsoft Azure, VMware, and other relevant database management systems is preferred.
