Position Summary

The Operations & Facilities Management Department at WashU Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus.

We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the world’s highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management.

Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors.

The position is responsible for designing and developing custodial standards and programs that provide a clean and safe environment for all School of Medicine personnel. Supervises custodial personnel.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for daily custodial operations, including general, special, and emergency housekeeping, assignment of the custodial staff, equipment, inventories, policy enforcement, and general records.

  • Responsible for daily receiving operations, including accurate receipt and shipment of parcels, policy enforcement, and general records.

  • Responsible for the distribution and tracking of ethyl alcohol and dry ice.

  • Supervises custodial and receiving personnel.

  • Recruits, employs, determines salary, trains, supervises, evaluates, counsels, and terminates staff.

  • Establishes policies and procedures governing Custodial Services and Shipping and Receiving for the Medical School.

  • Prepares income and expense budgets.

  • Reviews and controls budget variances, reporting the same to the Director.

  • Inspects and evaluates facility conditions in relation to established standards.

  • Administers productivity programs and evaluates departmental efficiency in relation to established standards.

  • Researches technology and regulations to improve custodial and receiving operations and submits recommendations to the Director.

  • Serves as liaison between Custodial Services and Medical School Departments, the Hilltop Campus, other Medical Center custodial and receiving departments, outside vendors and contractors, and local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Assists the Director in other duties as assigned, including the planning and accomplishment of departmental objectives.

  • 2nd shift schedule is typically Monday-Friday, 2:30 - 11:00 PM.

Salary Range

$58,400.00 - $99,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
