A little about Capital Power
Capital Power (TSX: CPX) is dedicated to Powering Change by Changing Power. This north star guides our ambitions, focus, and actions as we transform our energy system. We're a growth-oriented North American energy company headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. Our team safely delivers, builds, and creates balanced energy solutions for customers across North America.
Our people are at the core of our journey to deliver reliable, affordable, and lower-carbon power solutions. We provide purpose-driven work in a safe and inclusive environment, and we live by our North Star. With us, your contributions matter – we want you to be empowered to innovate, collaborate, and ultimately drive results. We're here to partner with you so you can learn, grow, and forge a career that's meaningful to you. Join us in powering North America!
Your Opportunity:
Powering Infrastructure Supercycle while preserving Grid Stability.
Power is the backbone of North American economic resilience. As a leading Independent Power Producer, Capital Power sustains daily life and critical infrastructure across the continent. Our diversified fleet of assets provides us with a uniquely stable foundation to pursue growth related to the AI infrastructure Supercycle.
As a Strategy Analyst you will work at the intersection of these two worlds. Our strategic planning team is where you will become an integral member of a team that provides enterprise oversight of, and future planning for, the portfolio. We aren't just keeping the lights on – we are fueling the future of the global economy.
The Role:
Capital Power is looking for a technically sophisticated Strategy Analyst to join the Corporate Strategy team. This is an execution-heavy position focused on capital allocation, strategic thinking, competitive intelligence, and high-stakes financial modeling. You will report directly to the strategy leadership, become a part of Enterprise Transformation and Planning team, and provide the analytical and procedural backbone for decisions presented to the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
You will contribute to our team by:
Financial Modeling: Build and maintain financial models to evaluate medium- and long-term investment strategies and capital allocation priorities
Competitive Intelligence: Go beyond "monitoring" – you will deconstruct peer financial results, earnings calls, and investor presentations to identify strategic threats and opportunities
Strategic Execution: Translate complex industry data into logical, high-impact narratives for the Executive Team and Board of Directors
Market Analysis: Act as the internal subject matter expert on trends and regulatory shifts affecting the power sector
Cross-Functional Rigor: Build strong, candid enterprise-wide relationships to collaborate, consolidate internal data, rigorously test it, and develop an enterprise-level perspective to ground strategy in reality
What you bring to the role:
Experience: 2-5 years in Investment Banking, Equity Research, or Corporate Development. We are looking for a person who is comfortable with advanced financial modeling and can work independently
Technical Literacy: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to create clear, well-organized PowerPoint presentations
Communication: Ability to speak plainly and write concisely. We value intellectual honesty over corporate polish
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, or a related field. CPA/CFA, etc. is an asset but your ability to execute matters more than your credentials
