Job Summary:

The Assistant Salvage Manager works with the outlet store and salvage leadership teams and staff to execute operational objectives as they relate to supporting the annual operating plan. He or she has responsibility for decision making in areas involving customers, team members, operational issues, business planning, priority setting, staff scheduling, team member performance appraisals, compliance with company policies, and assisting the Operations Manager with any and all areas of the business.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Staffs all open positions with quality and productive employees. Provides every employee with clear job responsibilities and expectations. Ensures all new employees are oriented and trained on all required work processes, procedures and expected standards of performance.
  • Evaluates the efficiency and productivity of assigned team members by establishing performance standards and objectives and conducts regular performance appraisals.
  • Assists team members in goal setting and skills development. Provides feedback on performance and attendance, addresses concerns, and administers performance discussions as needed. Provides work leadership on assigned shifts.
  • Meets/exceeds revenue projections and contribution targets for the department. Monitors production performance weekly and monthly, and provides reviews to all retail associates. Ensure all production and rotation quotas are met.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of team members Schedules employees with a focus on controlling payroll costs and adequate coverage and customer service.
  • Provides a clean, fun, and safe environment.  Provides maximum level of customer service.
  • Manages department loss control by monitoring and reporting suspicious activity to Loss Prevention.  Ensures that items are not given away without authorization.
  • Monitors inventory control and stock levels of all supplies for the department and orders supplies as needed.  Maintains an accurate inventory of product by category to ensure merchandise is available for the outlet store. Ensures that accurate sale, production and inventory reports are submitted on a daily basis.
  • Assist in handling salvage and recycling outbound freight loading requirements and documentation.
  • Recommends process improvements to maximize product yield and reduce costs.
  • Assures that all machines and equipment are properly used, that machines are kept clean, that routine maintenance is performed as scheduled and that problems are reported promptly to the maintenance department.
  • Maintains effective communication with support staff. Plans and organizes monthly departmental meetings, functions, and activities.
  • Ensures that the salvage department including the recycling line is properly staffed and operational during designated hours of operation.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, on short notice, including holidays, nights and weekends and frequently in excess of 45 hours a week.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills

Education

  • High School degree or GED equivalent is required. Experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

Experience

  • One year of management experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must be able to speak convincingly and clearly and to be able to interpret written material to his/her workers.
  • Must be able to prepare and maintain written reports and analyze and explain them to others.
  • Must be an effective supervisor with the ability to coordinate the work of several activities or shops.
  • Able to get along well with others and must be a team player.
  • Able to learn new processes quickly and possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Able to problem-solve, prioritize and be able to multi-task.
  • Possess basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
  • Must have reliable transportation for perform job duties; i.e. travel to other Goodwill locations and/or assist the outlet store with making bank deposits as needed

Certifications and Licensures

  • Forklift Certification is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Education / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Certification & License

  • One year of experience in a warehouse, production or retail management is preferred.
