Toast is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Technical Program Management to lead and transform our TPM organization. This role will be instrumental in driving strategic vision, execution, and scale within the TPM function, ensuring the efficient delivery of R&D's most complex and cross-functional programs. This TPM leader will oversee the daily execution of R&D programs and a team of 15 global Program Managers, bridging the gap between technical development and product strategy.

 

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Strategic Vision: Implement and define a strategic vision for the TPM organization, aligning with Toast’s overall business goals and R&D objectives. This includes a focus on standardizing processes and tools, upskilling the team, and implementing self-service capabilities.
  • Execution: Oversee the execution of our major initiatives and programs, ensuring on-time delivery, high quality, and minimal operational dependencies. Drive greater accountability for on-time delivery through improved forecasting, intake strategy, risk mitigation, and proactive identification of potential roadblocks.
  • Scale: Drive the scaling of the TPM organization through process optimization, automation, and the development of self-service capabilities, enabling teams to manage their own programs efficiently.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to the TPM team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Elevate the technical expertise within the team by establishing clear technical fluency requirements and providing training and development opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across R&D, Product, and Engineering. Proactively engage in R&D roadmap planning to ensure proper resource allocation and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Team Development: Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing TPM team, providing opportunities for growth and development. 

 

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • 10+ years of experience in technical program management, product management, AND technical leadership roles.
  • Proven experience in leading and scaling technical teams.
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Strong technical skills and fluency in software development concepts.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on execution and results.
  • Track record of establishing credibility with senior executives and technical and non-technical team members.
  • Outstanding discernment with an understanding of business drivers and of how to drive value to the customer.
  • Unrelenting focus on ownership, results and problem solving; you see a problem and provide thoughtful solutions.
  • Adaptive in the face of change, iterative in your designing process and consider feedback or failure as motivation to learn and grow.
  • Results-oriented with a demonstrated sense of urgency to drive multiple projects to successful completion.
  • Influencing skills - ability to communicate effectively and work with staff at all levels and across departments.
  • You demonstrate the ability to scale and equip the business in a strategic manner, communicate big picture opportunities and make data-driven decisions.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.

$172,000$275,000 USD
