Job Details:

The McCombs School of Business is looking for a student employee to provide support for the Stewardship team within Development and External Relations.

Development and External Relations (DER) is the fundraising team for the McCombs School of Business – responsible for building and maintaining relationships with donors, alumni, and friends of Texas McCombs and the University. This position specifically works with the Stewardship team, which focuses on sharing the impact of philanthropic support to McCombs through donor recognition, impact reporting and acknowledgements. We strive to demonstrate the gratitude felt by our students, faculty, and staff to our generous donors and supporters who make a McCombs education possible.

Responsibilities:

The Stewardship Student Assistant will primarily assist with preparing, reviewing, editing and mailing letters to McCombs donors and supporters as part of the University’s endowment reporting process. This position requires experience — preferably in a professional setting — with writing and editing, handling sensitive data and working in Microsoft Excel and Word. The ideal candidate is highly organized and has a strong attention to detail. Proper time management is essential to effectively meet deadlines set by University Compliance.

Additional tasks may include:

  • Creating impact reports and donor recognition materials

  • Entering, curating and manipulating data in Excel; tracking projects and deadlines

  • Maintaining and updating inventory of promotional items

  • Preparing and assembling project mailings

  • Signing thank you cards

  • Writing and tracking donor correspondence

  • Assisting with other projects, as assigned

  • Cross training with and supporting other teams with projects, as needed

  • Staffing events, as availability allows

All stewardship student assistants are responsible for:

  • Supporting development projects

  • Handling sensitive and classified data in accordance with University security and compliance standards

  • Using Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) to communicate and handle projects

  • Collaborating on projects utilizing Box

  • Identifying opportunities for improved workflow and project management

  • Learning about scholarships and endowments at McCombs and UT

  • Learning and utilizing the VIP system (database used to maintain donor information)

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Must be a University of Texas at Austin student, enrolled for at least 6 credit hours.

  • Writing and editing experience

  • Well-developed proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of attention to detail

  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines

  • Desire to learn new computer systems, software and professional skills

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment

  • Reliable and consistent time management skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and abstract thinking skills

Hourly Rate:

  • $15

Working Conditions:

  • Work performed in standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.

Schedule Work Shift:

Student assistants are expected to work 10-12 hours a week. Students may work up to 19 hours in the summer. Schedules will be determined at the start of each semester with flexibility around academic schedules and responsibilities. Each shift must be at least 2 hours long.

We are seeking a student who is available to start work this summer, with the expectation that you will continue into the fall semester. Many of our students work with us until graduation.
