Job Description:

Position Summary:

This role is responsible to source and secure carrier business opportunities and partner with carriers to determine the most efficient, economical and cost effective routes and shipping methods that meet customer expectations and business objectives.  

Here’s what you’ll do: 

  • Identify and analyze opportunities to increase freight handling and capitalize on new opportunities through networking relationships and calls to carriers
  • source and secure carriers for business opportunities with new and existing customers and participate in carrier development process (i.e., on-boarding, issue resolution, network growth, bid process, etc.).
  • Partner with carriers to determine the most efficient, economical and cost effective routes and shipping methods utilizing planning and optimization software and fleet/carrier rates.
  • Ensure high quality, cost effective and timely logistics services that meet customer expectations and business objectives.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to carrier partners.
  • Negotiate and develop contract capacity, and negotiate rates with carriers to ensure profitability and cost-effective margins.
  • Communicate with management and Sales regarding market conditions and capacity.
  • Conduct business reviews and carrier meetings; prepare operational reports to review KPI's and identify opportunities related to product delivery to include on-time scheduled deliveries and capacity.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data in the transportation management system (TMS) to include load planning information, master carrier list, specific lane assignments, service issues, etc.
  • Oversee carrier qualification process and ensure carriers are properly vetted and approved.
  • Participate in the investigation causes of over short and damage claims.
  • Resolve freight invoice discrepancies and BOL collections regarding carrier pricing, invoicing and any accessorial charges/fees.
  • Participate in the on-call support rotation and respond to any issues that arise in a timely manner.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Here’s what you’ll need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation operations or related area. 
  • Must have general understanding of brokerage operations and geographic freight markets.
  • Prior demonstration of negotiation skills is preferred.
  • Experience with transportation optimization tools a plus.
  • Familiarity with all transportation modes.
  • Basic understanding of supply chains, carrier pricing and warehouse operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, problem-solving skills, and must be detail-oriented and able to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Must have a strong commitment to customer service, solution execution and follow through.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.) required; experience with a transportation management system preferred (i.e., McLeod TMS).
  • Must be able to participate in on-call rotation.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may be high in distribution settings. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
