The General Project Manager leads the project activities (including those relating to risks & opportunities) to reach completion of the project regarding its technical, contractual, financial, and customer satisfaction aspects and runs the project organization and activities.

The General Project Manager shall implement and manage projects in accordance with contractual requirements and company processes and shall contribute to overall performance/schedule compliance, cash flow and budget of the project while ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained.

Brief task description

  • Act as the single point of responsibility for delivery of the project. 
  • Defining Project Execution Strategies and leading the creation of Project Baselines and structures through the bid phase of the lifecycle – including requirements capture, PBS/WBS/OBS, work package definition, estimating, risk and opportunity analysis and creation of the Master Schedule;
  • Organize the Launch Review of the project and set up the objectives of the project team (Including WBS, OBS, Project Charter, Team Charter, Project Master Schedule and Work Split);
  • Establish the governance of the project core team;
  • Manage and coordinate Hitachi teams as well as subcontractors and third parties;
  • Ensure that the staffing and level of expertise required to deliver the project are adequate;
  • In charge of the interface with the customer (end Customer as well as direct Customer) and for all project-related aspects;
  • Ensure all project team members are fully committed to meet the financial objectives (margin, sales, cash);
  • Understand the project contract requirements for forecasting & reporting as required by the project to the customer;
  • Steer the course of the project as per Project Master Schedule; lead the team to create an appropriately detailed schedule and then use that schedule and critical path to manage the execution of the project;
  • Challenge, monitor and validate in due time the financial parameters of the project jointly with the Project Financial Controller during project lifecycle;
  • Report on the overall progress of the project and raises alerts to management when the project faces difficulties or management involvement is required;
  • Leads the change control process and approves offers for contract variations in line with the Hitachi procedures and Business Line approvals;
  • Risk & Opportunity Management: Identifying, qualifying, quantifying and mitigating risks in accordance with the Projects Risk Management Processes;
  • Preparing Internal and Customer related Reporting (EAC review, CCB, MPR, QPR, etc. Monthly Progress report);
  • Lead progress meetings and project reviews;
  • Liaison with contributing functions to drive quality, cost & delivery performance;
  • Managing expectations for the delivery of the project and escalating issues on deadlines as early as possible;
  • Managing and motivating the project team to perform in accordance with the desired values and collaborative behaviours. 
  • Display strong communications skills ensuring clarity with the project team and external stakeholders (e.g. customer, subcontractors etc.);
  • Ensuring lessons from previous projects are learned and incorporated; contributing lessons for the wider benefit of the business;
  • Ensuring that all Project activities comply with the relevant Hitachi internal processes.

We are looking for an outstanding applicant who can demonstrate the following qualities:

Professional competency

  • Master degree or Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • 10 years’ experience in Project Management, preferably supported by Project Management certifications (e.g. IPMA, PMI…)
  • Railway experience highly preferred
  • Ability to understand technical matters would be an asset
  • Knowledge of railway products would be an asset

Preferred tools and methods:

  • Good knowledge of Project Management processes and tools
  • Advanced computer literacy – MS Office (Excel – especially formulas and KPIs, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Access)

Personal competencies:

  • Leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability for managing customer and supplier relationships, good negotiation skills
  • Commercial, financial and business acumen
  • Organisation and analytical skills in complex environments
  • A positive attitude combined with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills

Languages:

  • English (very good reading and writing)
