The Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and supporting metallurgical processes used in the manufacturing of metals and the operation of associated production and heat treatment equipment. Working under general supervision, this role applies metallurgical principles to product development, failure analysis, and in-process quality control, while investigating material performance issues, supporting customer requirements, and providing technical recommendations to improve product integrity, reliability, and manufacturing outcomes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, evaluate, and support metallurgical and heat treatment processes for metals manufacturing, including process selection, optimization, and operational support (25%).

  • Prepare, examine, and analyze metallurgical samples in support of product failure investigations, root cause analysis, and new product development initiatives (25%).

  • Perform metallurgical investigations and in-process control testing to assess material properties, microstructures, and compliance with customer and specification requirements (20%).

  • Investigate and resolve quality issues related to metallurgy and heat treatment by analyzing data, identifying contributing factors, and recommending corrective actions (15%).

  • Prepare technical reports, project updates, evaluations, and recommendations to communicate findings and support engineering, quality, and production decision-making (15%).

Representative Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 4–7+ years of progressively responsible experience in metallurgical engineering, materials processing, manufacturing, or a related industrial environment.

  • Experience with metallurgical testing methods, sample preparation, microstructural analysis, and failure analysis techniques.

  • Working knowledge of metals manufacturing processes, heat treatment methods, and quality control practices.

  • Ability to investigate material and process issues, analyze data, and develop practical, technically sound recommendations.

  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards, specifications, and customer requirements.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under general supervision while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
