About the role

What you need to know:

To contribute to the growth of the Financial Lines Profit Centre by underwriting new and renewal business; developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing brokers; assisting management with reporting; and working to carry out agreed FL strategies.

Accountabilities for the role:

Financial:

  • Meet individual underwriting expectations to help team achieve budgeted financial objectives.

Business Process:

  • Underwrite within agreed decision making standards, limitations, and underwriting authority
  • Assess desirability of risk through analysis of submissions; regular contact with broker; thorough review of proposal; and review of claims history and general company information
  • Use designated Underwriting system(s) to streamline underwriting and information-tracking approach across Profit Centre. Input required data consistently and accurately
  • Provide support to our broker network in relation to our BusinessGuard+ products through our Rapidcover system
  • Provide accurate monthly Management information including, but not limited to, submissions, bind rate, average premium, and total premium as required

Customer and Sales:

  • Provide excellent service to brokers through consistent, timely, and proactive approach to underwriting
  • Exhibit sales orientated behaviours, defined by Management as: motivated, tenacious, focused, technically skilled, proactive, and accountable
  • Generate new business by expanding broker network, attending broker events, and building new relationships across the market
  • Provide training to brokers on FL products as required either on one – to – one basis or as group presentation
  • Provide support to broker by attending client meetings or providing client presentations as required
  • Work with PCM to execute sales plan in identification of brokers and products to target
  • Take responsibility for meeting individual new business targets set by PCM
  • Take responsibility for individual allocation of renewals.

People:

  • Liaise with Commercial Operations Team as policy and/or booking issues arise
  • Build relationships with brokers by attending and organising regular broker events
  • Ensure all brokers and clients are treated fairly
  • Ensure customer-centric approach

Reporting/Compliance/Technical:

  • Progress towards achieving minimum competency level as required and within the necessary timeframe
  • Gain an understanding of relevant legislation, policy coverage, insurance program structures, risk management etc.
  • Conduct peer reviews as required
  • Ensure compliance with key regulatory and risk management responsibilities

What we’re looking for:

  • Ideally, some financial lines underwriting experience is desired; other relevant professional experience may substitute for financial lines underwriting experience
