Education and Experience Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Advanced degree in Nursing or related health field from an accredited program required. Five (5) years of clinical leadership experience.
Certifications, Licenses, or Registration Required: Valid RN license. Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) required within two (2) years of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctoral preparation in nursing or related field preferred. Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or other applicable certification approved by the Chief Nursing Executive preferred. Knowledge of lean principles preferred. Experience with change management, project management, and leading in Magnet or Pathway to Excellence Organizations. Experience in leading initiatives focused on practice in evidence-based practice (EBP)/research, education, and workforce enhancement at an academic medical center.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with development and implantation of quality, safety, patient and satisfaction initiatives. Experience with nursing informatics and facilitating a magnet journey. Strong knowledge of quality management in a hospital setting. Knowledge of hospital nursing operations, including performance improvement, professional practice models and standards, and regulatory expectations. Ability to organize and manage complex projects, using lean processes to facilitate project management. Requires strong presentation skills and creativity. General knowledge of departmental budgets and contracts. Knowledge of the electronic medical records policy and procedures program and electronic office programs (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher, etc.). Able to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts. Must have excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:
Work with the Chief Nursing Executive Officer and key stakeholders including Chief Nursing Officers and clinical directors to understand needs to develop and implement evidence-based, clinically excellent nursing strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Lead the adoption and integration of new technologies and clinical processes to enhance nursing practice and patient care delivery.
Collaborates with Human Resources to support community outreach, staffing resources and retention strategies.
Facilitates operational initiatives around contingency staffing, care models and predictive scheduling analytics.
Work closely with the Chief Nursing Officers and clinical directors to understand the needs of the individual facilities and/or department.
Drive initiatives for workforce culture, including nurse residency programs, mentoring emerging leaders, collaborating with Schools of Nursing, and implementing retention strategies to foster a supportive and engaged nursing staff.
Oversee evidence-based practice (EBP), nursing research, innovation, and professional education and development to ensure high standards of nursing practice across the organization.
Lead/facilitate interprofessional governance councils and promote relationship-based care models to enhance nursing engagement, collaboration, and autonomous decision-making.
Ensure organizational compliance with all relevant regulatory, state, federal, and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards through coordinated review and oversight efforts.
Utilize data (e.g., NDNQI reports) to set unit-specific goals for Magnet designation and implement initiatives aimed at improving patient and nursing satisfaction scores.
Develop and oversee programs and processes that foster exemplary professional nursing practice and Nursing Excellence across the organization.
Mentor and coach teams and individuals to lead and support strategic initiatives, fostering leadership development and shared governance within the nursing staff.
Demonstrate financial stewardship by managing resources effectively, collaborating with clinical areas to set educational and operational strategies, and ensuring the efficient use of organizational funds.
