At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

In this role you will be responsible for leading the design, development, manufacturing and testing of fluid systems with an emphasis on reducing cost. You will engage in all levels of the design and production cycle including conceptual design, requirements definition, detailed design, integration, test, and mission support. You will use creative thinking and novel manufacturing solutions to solve sophisticated problems with high pressure, cryogenic, and highly stressed hardware.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Disposition non-conforming hardware throughout all phases of flight production
  • Develop and implement design improvements to increase production rate
  • Drive design for manufacturability.  Update assembly and test procedures for flight hardware identified through root cause analysis, manufacturing, testing, flight, and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Design, route, optimize, and solve complex fluid subsystems (i.e., pressurization, pneumatics, propellant utilization, cryogenic systems)
  • Work with fluid components (i.e., solenoid valves, pneumatic valves, regulators, pressure vessels and instrumentation)
  • Work with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred)
  • Deliver completed designs using best draft practicing per ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards along with clear and well detailed analysis reports
  • Evening and weekend production support required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience with complex fluid systems
  • Demonstrated experience with spacecraft or launch vehicle fluid system component design or test or manufacturing
  • Demonstrated practical understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements and fittings
  • Knowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to tubes/piping and machined components
  • Working knowledge of materials and treatments
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with hydrazine and/or cryogenic helium, hydrogen and oxygen systems
  • Solid understanding of cryogenic material properties and testing
  • Experience with component and system testing, troubleshooting, and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with the application and use of welding
  • Project management skills, including supplier management, scheduling, and budget tracking.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends to support build and test

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

Inclusivity Statement

Don’t meet all desired requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification.
