Position Summary

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will play a crucial role within a collaborative team and will design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs while also ensuring that releases are well-coordinated, fully prepared, and successfully deployed to production. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in modern backend development, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to production monitoring, issue triage, and cross-team coordination. This position is critical in maintaining high engineering standards, ensuring smooth release cycles, and driving operational excellence across the development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

7+ years of experience with end-to-end software engineering across the full SDLC including the following:

  • Strong foundation in software engineering: problem solving, data structures, algorithms,  patterns, concurrency.
  • Strong in Java, Spring Boot, API development, JUnit testing, and coding best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP services such as Storage Buckets, Composer, Dataflow, and IAM.
  • Experience developing and maintaining RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend systems.
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL/data quality pipelines.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, Apigee, GKE, Airflow.
  • Proficiency with Relational and Non-Relational databases - MongoDB, and SQL/Postgres.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
  • Strong in automated testing and OAuth2/JWT-based authentication.
  • Skilled in logging/monitoring using Prometheus, Grafana, and trace logs.
  • Experience coordinating release cycles, preparing release notes, and ensuring all development tasks and dependencies are tracked.
  • Ability to ensure features, bug fixes, and tasks are in a “release-ready” state with proper documentation, testing, and approvals.
  • Experience supporting production deployments and post-deployment validations.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with an Application and Performance Monitoring platform.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of message queues and event-driven architectures (Pub/Sub, Kafka, etc.).
  • Experience with SRE or DevOps practices, including incident management and root-cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of APIGee, Python.
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies and sprint planning best practices
  • Healthcare domain experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions, clarify requirements, and support junior engineers.
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to operate independently with minimal guidance.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$101,970.00 - $203,940.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
