We are excited to offer our 2025 Summer Internship Program to purpose-driven students seeking to make a difference in their work and in their community. Our internship program is based in Austin, Texas, down the street from our original Whole Foods Market store. Our interns don’t get us coffee; instead, they enjoy free coffee and tea while working on meaningful projects that impact our internal and external stakeholders.
Intern Responsibilities May Include:
- Multiple pre-existing simple applications or a single complex application within a technical domain
- Articulates and applies industry-standard Product Management concepts, practices, and methodologies
- Owns the translation of business intent, customer needs, and/or technical direction into clear, concise, well-documented business requirements or product backlog for a multiple simple application or a single complex application in a single technical domain.
- Organizes and/or facilitates requirements gathering and refinement sessions for existing or brand-new solutions; documents resulting decisions and follows up on assigned action items.
- Constantly evaluates and updates requirements or product backlog and acceptance criteria for relevance and clarity as things change.
- Partners with project management to ensure effective / ongoing communication and collaboration and sets and manages stakeholder expectations.
- Develops near-term (6-12 months) product roadmap, ensuring product development plans align with and support stakeholder business and application objectives.
- Coordinates with all stakeholders, users, and technical teams to plan, execute, and communicate scheduled and unscheduled releases.
- Articulates and applies industry-standard Product Management concepts, practices, and methodologies.
- Owns the translation of business intent, customer needs, and/or technical direction into clear, concise, well-documented business requirements or product backlog for a multiple simple application or a single complex application in a single technical domain.
- Organizes and/or facilitates requirements gathering and refinement sessions for existing or brand new solutions, documents resulting decisions and follows up on assigned action items.
- Constantly evaluates and updates requirements or product backlog and acceptance criteria for relevance and clarity as things change.
- Prioritizes development items according to deadlines, business context, and technical need.
- Defines user experience flows and decisions including success, failure, and error conditions, partnering with others as required.
- Partners with solution architects and development teams to design application architecture, integration points, and other non-functional requirements.
- Acts as a subject matter expert during development to resolve design issues and provide clarity during development.
- Bridges conversations between customers and development teams using knowledge of complex user journeys and technical integration.
- Conducts acceptance tests of working software against acceptance criteria and provides sign-off or feedback as required.
- Coordinates with all stakeholders, users, and technical teams to plan, execute, and communicate scheduled and unscheduled releases.
- In-depth knowledge of custom and packaged/SaaS software design tools and development methodologies and ability to mentor junior team members.
- In-depth knowledge of medium-complexity technical and integration architecture patterns.
- In-depth knowledge of application deployment and support processes and tools.
- Working knowledge of standard software testing and bug reporting tools and techniques.
- Working knowledge of requirements or backlog management software.
- Communicates structured information in a clear, concise, and organized fashion.
- Collaborates with others to achieve objectives and insure information flow.
- Tailors communication approach to specific situations and audiences.
- Possesses clear understanding of WFM’s and supported region / stores business objectives.
- Understands and articulates complex business processes, user journeys and technical integration in a single business domain.
- Factors business and financial understanding into planning decisions.
- Able to prioritize projects based on economic or strategic impact.
- Ability to work with others, direct others and work cooperatively to ensure completion of projects.
- Articulates product requirements and ensures application across product definition and development.
- Collaborates with and leads cross-functional engineering and technology partners in product design and development.
- Knowledge of software engineering practices; experience with developing software products and technologies.
- Current 1st year MBA student preferred
Internship Program Details:
Our Summer 2025 Internships are paid for 10-weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) between June 2, 2025-August 8, 2025. The internships will be based in Austin, Texas and are not open to remote candidates at this time.
Weekly Summer Event Series: Weekly events for interns to connect with one another and get immersed in the Whole Foods Market culture. Previous events have included distribution center tours, cheese tastings, volunteering at the Central Texas Food Bank, supplier visits, women in leadership panel and more!
Application Review: Our internship applications will be open in November 2024. We will review applications on a rolling basis so next steps and interviews may not be communicated until November or December 2024.
