General Description:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of multi-craft functions in and around the hospital and outlying clinics complex assisting tradesmen and other personnel in completing their tasks.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. 

  • Changes lights, replaces ballasts, cover plates, and performs basic electrical system trouble shooting tasks.
  • Hangs pictures, bulletin boards; replaces ceiling tiles, floor tile and cove base.
  • Makes minor repairs to furniture, cabinets and rolling equipment.
  • Repairs/replaces faucets; makes repairs to flush valves and bedpan washers.
  • Repairs leaks on commodes, sinks and other plumbing fixtures. 
  • Adjust/calibrate thermostats.
  • Cleans/replaces filters and vents.
  • Completes all assigned tasks as well as helps co-workers when needed. 
  • May make minor repairs/adjustments to door hardware and closures.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: 0-3 years of work experience required.  2 or more years of experience in building maintenance in a health care facility preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Must have basic knowledge of electrical operations/functions, knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, of proper drain cleaning equipment with the ability to clear drain lines of stoppages.
  • Must be open to suggestions from electricians and senior mechanics to learn troubleshooting techniques.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians on a daily basis. Must always display a strong professional appearance representing the team in a positive and service oriented manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate concepts, standards, and instructions to others verbally and in writing. 
  • Knowledge of computer operations and systems preferred. 
  • Must have good customer service skills.
  • The position requires commitment and on-going training with the expectation of gaining knowledge in all trades pertaining to this facility.
