As a Neogen Controls Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of a wide array of manufacturing equipment. You will apply your technical skills to install, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical systems, factory automation and robotics. You will work with engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and minimize or eliminate downtime. Neogen’s Controls Specialists are also the first-responding problem solvers who manage machine breakdown recoveries to keep production running. Our systems include robotics, variable frequency drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, controls devices, vision and scanning systems, and other sub-systems designed to produce high quality products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely troubleshoot and maintain process systems, electrical systems, control systems and instrumentation.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance and calibration programs.
  • Support programming of process control systems for new projects.
  • Fully understand ladder diagrams, electrical schematics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Correctly configure and program a variety of manufacturing controllers.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment issues are resolved effectively and efficiently.
  • Use graphical user interfaces (HMI’s).
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties on automated equipment and systems.
  • Maintain equipment files, logs, and drawings.

Job Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in a controls technician/engineer role on production manufacturing equipment and/or have equivalent training or relevant technical education.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical assembly drawings and accurately measure and inspect tolerances.
  • Advanced computer skills (able to use job-specific PC applications and coach other users)
  • Solid electrical knowledge (thorough understanding of electrical requirements and hazards)
  • Solid skills with voltmeter to check AC/DC voltage, able to diagnose issues and troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Proficient with pneumatic-solenoid valves, actuator, and control operations.
  • Proficient with basic hydraulic system operations.
  • Ability to analyze problems and error conditions, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (able to present findings, understand and record maintenance procedures, communicate across shifts, etc.).
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills that promote teamwork.

Experience in the following areas is highly beneficial:

  • Working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC and comparable ladder logic control programs, and Panelview HMI systems, frequency drives and  motion controls.
  • Orchestra, Opera, FT Batch and Feedmaster
  • Working knowledge of communication networks for manufacturing equipment.
  • Coordination of repairs on equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems ranging from 24 VDC to 240 VAC
