Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician II assists the Pharmacist and other hospital staff in providing quality care to patients by applying knowledge and training of medication distribution.

Job Specific Responsibilities
Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:
• Provide training to new employees and/or pharmacy students as directed by pharmacists or supervisor
• Accurately process medication orders and requests, gather and dispense medications, fill prescription orders
• Deliver drugs to assigned units
• Maintain daily pharmacy logs
• Assist in inventory control, answer phones, and other assigned duties by the Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Supervisor
• Prepare IV medications in accordance with USP 797/800 regulations
• Ensure IV rooms are cleaned and documented in accordance with USP 797/800
• Obtain and enter medication history for patient into electronic format within EHR
• Ensure accuracy of medication history for patient
• Identify and report to pharmacist any noted inaccuracies, duplicates, or other safety concerns generated from medication history
• All other assigned duties related to Pharmacy Compliance

Education and Experience-
• High School Diploma or GED

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
• Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the State of Texas Board of Pharmacy
• Certificate of completion of a nationally recognized IV Certification Program
• Certificate of completion of UMCHS Pharmacy Medication Reconciliation Program

Skills and Abilities-
• Demonstrated combination of training and experience that requires concentration, accuracy, and discipline
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships
Daily interaction with other staff within the Pharmacy department. Works closely with clinics, nursing units, EMS, and other hospital staff as required

Physical Capabilities
Work is of light demand; involves lots of walking on the health center campus. Must possess near visual acuity to read documents and computer records. Ability to lift up to 10pounds.

Environmental/Working Conditions
This position is subject to inside environmental changes that may include constant change in temperatures. Hours of duty may be irregular to accommodate departmental requirements.
