Job Description:

Position Summary: 

Machinist will work in the Machine Shop, set up and operate Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Production equipment as well as manual shop equipment (milling machines and lathes). This employee will work with minimum supervision fabricating. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Manufacturing Parts: 45% 

Perform all aspects of machining to include setup and operation of equipment such as 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills, lathes, routers, lasers as well as manual milling machine and manual experience programming using Catia or better. Ability to read and write g-code using CAM software as the machine controller.  Produce quality products in a timely manner using specifications and documents in conjunction with written work. 

Maintain a demanding level of quality working on Aerospace materials such as aluminum, titanium stainless steel, and other materials. 

Be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and written work plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Utilizes ISO compliant documentation and/or processes to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup. Use of various measuring techniques used to validate conformance to requirements. 

Knowledge of tooling, tool setting and offsetting, setting work offsets, and basic inspections. Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls. Verifies conformance of finished first article workpiece to specifications and conducts subsequent inspection of workpiece in accordance with the machine shop's statistical process control (SPC) inspection. Use of hand deburr tools. Confers with lead person, machine shop supervisor or others to resolve machining. 

Adhere to all safety and security requirements. 

Effective interfacing with Engineers and Quality Good written and verbal communication. 

CNC Programming: 30% 

Code programs for new parts that come into the shop. Create and correct DXF and GNH files in Enroute or Gravostyle software systems. Create instructions for the setups. Review CAD design blueprints. 

Establishes sequencing of cuts for each job. Choose cutting tool to be used for each job. 

Sheet Metal Installation: 10% 

Read detailed plans and diagrams and inspect and measure parts prior to assembly, making sure parts are free of defects. Cut, grind, or trim parts to fit.  Follow Engineering instructions and company. 

Make adjustments or replace parts when. Assist in the development of patterns or templates to simplify manufacturing processes and to assure proper. Cut, file, drill and ream metal, plastic, and rubber sections.

Additional Responsibilities: 

Other duties as assigned: 15% 

SAP, Time charging, manage Personal Time Bank (PTB) and Vacation (VAC) time. 

Part mark bag and tag, complete work order. 

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training: 

Education: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Trade School Certification 

Experience: 

  • Five (5)+ Years of working in a Machine/Fab Shop
  • Five (5)+ Years of experience in Aerospace (or related/transferrable field)

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities: 

  • Must be able to write code for CNC programming (create and correct DXF and GNH files) from drawings.
  • Knowledge of blueprint drawing tolerance. 
  • Basic computer skills. 
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and written work. 
  • Effective interfacing with Engineers and Quality. 
  • Use of hand deburr tools. 
  • Aviation sheet metal work experience. 
  • Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages): 
  • Effective verbal and written communication 
  • Technical Systems Proficiency: 
  • Intermediate computer skills including use of Autocad, EnRoute, Gravostyle, word, excel. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Onsite or remote: 100% onsite
  • Vision: Adequate to enter and read material on computer screens or controls on machines, lathes, etc. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, giving of directions, and other business interactions.
  • Hearing: Able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals. 
  • Speaking: Able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying sizes with or without amplification. 
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate a personal computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors.
  • Carrying: Able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues, or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Lifting: Able to occasionally lift up to 50lbs/23kg. 
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to push/pull items in office areas and on the shop floor.
  • Sitting: Able to sit for extended periods of time at the computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: Able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: Able to stand for extended periods of time while delivering information. 
  • Travel/Mobility: Able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips, and sometimes on uneven indoor or outdoor surfaces.
