The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant aids the ophthalmologist by obtaining medical information, performing preliminary eye function exams and explaining to patients about medication and/or procedures. Gathers history and information and performs comprehensive ophthalmic examinations or tests (such as visual acuity tests, the strength of glasses, color vision testing, lensometry, and tonometry, confrontal visual fields, Amsler grid testing, Keratometer, stereo acuity, BAT, EOM, fundal photography, HRT, refraction, applanator, Tono-Pen, etc.).
Position Requirements: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization. 1 year or more of experience in an Ophthalmology setting. Certification as Ophthalmic Assistant, Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS).
