Why this role matters...

The Group 1001 Life & Annuity business unit seeks a Senior Paralegal to join the Law and Compliance Department.  The Senior Paralegal will support annuity product and development initiatives for the group and play an integral role in the growing pension risk transfer (PRT) business issued by Delaware Life Insurance Company.  The successful candidate will work closely with internal business teams during the bidding and onboarding processes and will draft, review and revise PRT-related legal documents, with attorney oversight.

This role will also participate in the annual process of updating SEC registration statements for variable annuities and variable life insurance policies, in drafting and filing annuity contract forms with the Interstate Compact and state departments of insurance, and in other projects as assigned.  The ideal candidate will have a desire to learn, a positive attitude and be able to work independently with a broad range of individuals.  While there is a preference to locate this role in our headquarters office in Zionsville, Indiana, we will also consider remote candidates from other locations.  Group 1001 also has offices outside of Boston in Waltham, Massachusetts and in Chicago, Illinois.

How you'll contribute...

  • Developing, maintaining, and applying a comprehensive understanding of compliance requirements and company norms for documents used in the PRT bidding process, including commitment agreements, group annuity contracts, and group annuity certificates

  • Assisting as needed in drafting revisions to contract forms for PRT group annuity contracts and certificates and filing them for review and approval by insurance regulators
  • Working collaboratively with others in the Law and Compliance Department to prepare SEC filings for variable annuities and variable insurance products.
  • Assisting as needed in drafting revisions to contract forms for other annuity products to be issued by the insurance companies in the Life & Annuity business unit and preparing to file such forms with insurance regulators for review and approval.
  • Providing support for additional Law and Compliance Department projects as assigned.
