A Day in the Life

The skilled technical position of Tool Maker is responsible for providing input into designing, constructing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. This role requires interpreting technical drawings, utilizing a variety of machine tools, and ensuring that tools meet exact specifications for production. Additionally, the Tool Maker provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement, or product development.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Read and interpret drawings and apply knowledge, experience, know-how, ingenuity and innovation to produce/manufacture required machine components.

  • Program and run various CNC vertical machining centers, Wire EDM’s, manual grinders, lathes and secondary operation equipment

  • Prepare metalworking dies, molds, and machine tool fixtures by analyzing drawings, sketches, models, and engineering or shop specifications

  • Uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to compute dimensions and determine tolerances

  • Performs precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions, revising designs, and problem solves as needed

  • Monitors and verifies quality and safety according to Medtronic's standards

  • Communicate production schedules and commitments to leadership as needed

  • Schedule: Onsite; Monday - Friday 1st Shift.

Must Have (Required): 

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent (United States), vocational or technical education or certification (all other countries).

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with vertical CNC machining center.

  • Understands cutting tool geometry and applications

  • Reads and comprehends advanced drawings with GD&T

  • Ability to conceptualize and sketch tools, fixtures, and gages

Nice to Have:

  • Prior experience in a Tool Room environment

  • Knowledge in setting up and running Haas vertical Machining centers and Lathes

  • Knowledge with navigating through Creo Parametric

  • Experience in setting up and running Wire EDM’s

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$53,200 - $79,800
