GE Appliances is seeking a Principal Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) – Robotics to play a highly visible, strategic leadership role in advancing our global robotic automation strategy. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy cutting-edge robotic solutions—leveraging 3D vision, simulation, and advanced controls—to improve manufacturing quality, throughput, and productivity across high-volume appliance operations.

You will serve as a technical authority and mentor, leading complex automation programs from concept through implementation while ensuring compliance with safety, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of automation at GE Appliances while working closely with plant operations, product development, and cross-functional engineering teams.

How You'll Create Possibilities

What You Will Do

  • Lead the conceptualization, specification, development, and implementation of robotic, electrical, and controls systems across manufacturing and warehouse environments

  • Drive cost reduction, productivity improvements, and quality enhancements in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Run-the-Plant (RTP) initiatives

  • Act as a key liaison between engineering project teams and plant operations, ensuring alignment with factory priorities and value-stream needs

  • Own and advance robotic, electrical, controls, and safety equipment standards, ensuring compliance with national codes and regulations

  • Investigate and recommend emerging robotic and automation technologies, with a strong emphasis on robotic tooling, fixturing, vision systems, and controls

  • Lead advanced manufacturing engineering activities supporting NPI, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and Lean initiatives

  • Participate in Production Preparation Process (3P) activities, ensuring right-sized equipment, optimized material flow, standard work, and single-piece flow

  • Manage robotic, electrical, and controls portions of capital equipment projects, including supplier selection, specification development, installation, and qualification

  • Ensure Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) principles are integrated into product and equipment designs

  • Champion EHS, ergonomics, and Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles in all equipment and process implementations

  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and cross-functional team members; provide training and documentation to maintenance and shop-floor teams

  • Troubleshoot complex automation and process issues and provide expert technical support

  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously or serve as the technical lead on large-scale automation programs

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in robotics, controls, and automated manufacturing systems

  • Engineering degree or equivalent practical experience

  • Expert-level knowledge of FANUC and/or ABB robots, including programming, electrical/mechanical systems, and simulation tools (ROBOGUIDE, ROBOTSTUDIO)

  • Experience with 2D/3D vision systems, TCP, DCS/SafeMove, and robotic safety integration

  • Strong working knowledge of Studio 5000 Logix, PLC-robot interfaces, and industrial automation architectures

  • Proven experience leading automation equipment procurement projects from specification through qualification

  • Excellent project planning, execution, and cross-functional leadership skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels

  • Hands-on capability with mechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, and sensor integration

  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo
     

Vision & Automation Expertise

  • Advanced experience with machine vision systems in robotic applications

  • Familiarity with platforms such as FANUC iRVision, Cognex, Keyence, and AI-based vision systems
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering

  • Experience with OEM integrators or industrial robotic workstation design

  • Advanced simulation expertise (Roboguide preferred)

  • Knowledge of Studio 5000 / RSLogix, Proficy, SIMATIC, or SIMOTION

  • Experience designing robotic tooling and fixturing

  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher)

  • TUV Functional Safety certification

  • Programming experience in Python, C#, VB, or similar languages

  • Background in algorithm development and prototyping (MATLAB, Python, C/C++)

  • High-volume manufacturing environment with frequent time on the shop floor and in an office setting

  • Flexibility for occasional off-shift or weekend work during major implementations, with an emphasis on proactive planning and work-life balance
