The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $17.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, certifications, licensure, and location.

The Animal Clinic of Woodland Park is a long-standing general practice hospital with deep ties to the community, located in beautiful Woodland Park, Colorado. Who We're Looking For

We are currently looking to hire an Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! The ideal candidate will be a dependable, detail-oriented team player who loves pets and being part of a fun, supportive team. They will have experience rooming patients, surgical assisting experience and knowledge of equipment used, drawing blood and running bloodwork, knowledge of x-rays and proper positioning, experience with proper animal handling and restraint, understanding the importance of client education, and being a positive and motivating team member.

Reporting Structure:

Directly reports to the Technical Manager and/or Operations Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understands and applies hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining the hospital's standard of cleanliness
  • Removes trash, sweeps, and mops daily
  • Assisting in the set-up of multiple procedures including X-ray, ultrasound, and surgical procedures
  • Stocking medical supplies
  • Cleaning of kennels
  • Properly washing and sterilizing surgical equipment
  • Hospital laundry
  • Walking patients outside, if necessary
  • Attends staff and departmental meetings
  • Filling medications under the supervision or direction of a Veterinary Technician and/or DVM

Animal Care:

General knowledge of animal restraint to assist Veterinarians and Technicians with:

  • Blood draws
  • Nail trims
  • Health exams
  • Anesthetic procedures
  • Administering vaccinations and/or injectable medications
  • Provides compassionate patient care, including keeping patients clean, dry, and comfortable and alerting the hospital to changes in patient's condition

Client Relations:

  • Answers the telephone by the third ring in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Answers phone shoppers’ questions, establishing value associated with the services the facility provides
  • Makes appointments as needed

Personal Conduct:

  • Adheres to all hospital policies, standards, and procedures, including but not limited to dress code, smoking, and personal calls, as stated in the hospital procedures manual.
  • Serves as a representative of the hospital, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and a positive attitude in all interactions with clients, patients, and other staff members.
  • Demonstrates initiative in everyday duties by seeking other work during down times, assisting other employees, and filling in for other employees as needed.
  • Adheres to the posted work schedule. Arrives for work promptly and begins work at the start time. Follows hospital policies for reporting lateness or absences.
  • Utilizes the time clock to clock in and out at the beginning and end of each day and during breaks.
  • Organizes work area and exercises time-management skills to maximize personal efficiency.
  • Prioritizes tasks and handles multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner.

Additional Duties:

  • Occasional property maintenance i.e. snow shoveling, lawn mowing, trash and fecal matter disposal, bird feeders, etc.

Requirements:

  • Availability to occasionally work uncommon hours and overtime and to be recalled in emergency situations.
  • Excellent animal-handling skills, including the confidence and dexterity to administer medications to and bathe animals.
  • Ability to properly restrain patients.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • A commitment to outstanding client service.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stay on task and work energetically for the entire shift, sometimes exceeding 10 hours per day.
  • Preferred: One year or more of experience in a veterinary hospital.
