Position Summary

The Director, Production is responsible for leading all production operations within a manufacturing location, including both back shop and assembly operations. This role is focused on building a world-class lean organization that enhances profitability, improves responsiveness to customer orders, and develops a high-performing production team. Reporting directly to the Director, Plant Operations, the Director, Production will drive operational excellence, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure that production systems deliver on quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, business, or related field
  • Experience with union relations or strong employee engagement practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Lean or other continuous improvement systems
  • Proven ability to develop talent and build succession plans

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing engineering or production operations, preferably in heavy assembly or automotive industries
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated success in strategic leadership while remaining hands-on in operations

Position Overview

The Director, Production will oversee all aspects of production operations, ensuring that manufacturing processes meet customer demands and organizational goals. Key responsibilities include directing production activities, implementing best-in-class operating procedures, and driving continuous improvement in productivity, cost reduction, and capacity utilization. This leader will ensure supply chain readiness for new product launches, manage production control systems to streamline material flow, and partner with the Quality team to enhance product standards.

The role requires building a culture of continuous improvement through Lean Standard Work, developing annual budgets, managing inventory, and minimizing waste. The Director, Production will also be responsible for developing direct reports, fostering employee engagement, and leading transformational initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the workforce. With a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence, this position is critical to building a best-in-class production organization that supports long-term business success.
