About Databricks

At Databricks, we are passionate about enabling data teams to solve the world's toughest problems — from making the next mode of transportation a reality to accelerating the development of medical breakthroughs. We do this by building and running the world's best data and AI infrastructure platform so our customers can use deep data insights to improve their business. Founded by engineers — and customer obsessed — we leap at every opportunity to solve technical challenges, from designing next-gen UI/UX for interfacing with data to scaling our services and infrastructure across millions of virtual machines. And we're only getting started.

The Role

As data and Generative AI applications become foundational to national security, safeguarding the infrastructure that powers them is paramount. As a Senior Technical Solution Engineer on our Cleared Engineering team, you will act as the vital bridge between core infrastructure operations and active platform reliability within our high-security, air-gapped partitions and GovCloud environments. Operating in an environment of unique compliance frameworks, you will move beyond reactive ticketing to take on complex system and network triage, reviewing infrastructure scripts, and building deployment automation to eliminate systemic operational roadblocks.

Based out of our McLean, VA office on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week, with the flexibility required for secure facility operations), this role is designed as an elite technical incubator. You will join a highly sophisticated operational loop with a structured, long-term pathway to transition into a core individual contributor role as either a Production Engineer (PE) or Software Development Engineer (SDE). If you are a sharp Systems, Cloud, or DevSecOps Engineer looking to scale your engineering capability on the world's leading Data and AI platform, this position offers an unparalleled career trajectory.

The Impact You’ll Have

  • Ensure Platform Reliability: Own the technical triage, infrastructure visibility, and incident resolution for Databricks’ multi-cloud data enclaves and Generative AI software running inside air-gapped environments.
  • Drive Automation & Patching: Author, edit, and optimize Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation scripts to streamline environment patching and eliminate manual operational bottlenecks.
  • Unblock Engineering Teams: Serve as the critical secure-zone operational interface, unblocking complex GovCloud and air-gapped system interactions for internal Databricks engineering teams.
  • Maintain Guardrails & Compliance: Execute sophisticated debugging, analysis, and tooling operations natively within secure boundaries, strictly adhering to modern digital escort and access guidelines.
  • Advance Your Career Path: Actively develop your software engineering and large-scale systems capabilities through a structured framework designed to transition you into a core SDE or Production Engineering loop.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Candidates must hold a current TS/SCI clearance (either active or currently held in an editable/re-activatable status within the 2-year window).
    • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Support Engineering, DevSecOps, or a related technical operational role.
    • High-level proficiency in at least one modern language (Python, Go, Bash, or Java) with the ability to read, edit, and troubleshoot software and infrastructure code natively.
    • Solid baseline familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
    • Hands-on debugging and systems administration experience inside major public cloud boundaries (specifically AWS, Azure, or GCP platforms).
    • Strong foundation in Linux/Unix systems engineering, containers (Docker/Kubernetes orchestration mechanics), and automated deployment pipelines.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Ability to work from the McLean, VA office on a hybrid cadence (3 days a week), with the flexibility to support secure facility (SCIF) operational frameworks as required.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Active Counterintelligence (CI) or Full Scope Polygraph (FSP).
    • Prior experience supporting AWS World Wide Public Sector (WWPS), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Federal Support, or specialized high-side defense integration environments.
    • Proven track record of moving past task-oriented operations into building automated tooling and infrastructure-level scripting.
