Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Managing Director,  Portfolio Construction, the Associate Portfolio Manager (APM), Portfolio Construction, is primarily responsible for (a) developing, maintaining, and using IMCO’s asset and asset-liability models, (b) developing and analyzing strategic asset allocation advice to IMCO clients, and (c) developing related presentations and other materials for clients, prospective clients, and a variety of internal and external audiences. The APM will also undertake investment research on portfolio construction, investment strategies, long-term capital markets trends and thematic investment opportunities and risks.

Accountabilities: 

  • Leading asset liability and strategic asset allocation analysis for IMCO clients, including development of strategic asset allocation advice to IMCO’s clients.
  • Developing, reviewing, maintaining, and documenting IMCO’s asset and asset-liability models and processes.
  • Analyzing and understanding the characteristics and performance drivers of asset classes and strategies, asset mix alternatives, liabilities, risk appetite and tolerance.
  • Communicating quantitative findings and complex subject matter, both verbally and in writing, in a fashion that is clear, concise, and tailored to the audience.
  • Developing presentations and other materials for clients, prospective clients, as well as other internal and external audiences.
  • Assisting with development of and updates to IMCO’s capital market assumptions.
  • Participating in and supporting the team’s various research initiatives.
  • Fostering culture and behaviours that support intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, innovation, and high level of collaboration.
  • Collaborating with IMCO’s investment, risk, client service, and operations teams.

Job Requirements:

  • An actuarial designation (e.g. ASA, FSA, FCIA) combined with a relevant undergraduate is required.
  • Hands on experience in valuation of pension or insurance liabilities.
  • Experience developing and reviewing long-term capital market assumptions
  • Knowledge of investing trends, financial markets and a strong ability in research, analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Understanding of asset liability modelling, stress testing, and investment landscape,
  • Role model work ethic, using the highest level of integrity under all conditions.
  • Ability to work in a complex and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to report complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels and cultivate key partnerships to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders as well as third-party service providers.

The base salary range for this position is CAD $130,000.00 - $165,000.00. The placement within the range is determined by the range of market pay for the specific position, as well as the candidate's knowledge, skillset and experience relative to the requirements of the position and to internal peers. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible to participate in IMCO's annual incentive plan.
