GENERAL FUNCTION:

Design and implement technology solutions using modern engineering tools and Agile practices. Work with self-directed, cross-functional, and product-oriented teams in a highly collaborative environment. Deliver some of the bank's most important products and services while developing skills and experience well beyond your initial role.

The Distinguished Software Engineer is a technical expert in one or more domains and a thought leader that acts as a catalyst to accelerate the adoption of the very best engineering practices across the company. They maintain knowledge of (and may even contribute to) industry innovations, trends, and best practices. They work on some of the organization’s most difficult problems, coach and mentor other members of the company’s engineering community, and help to define roadmaps for delivering next generation technology solutions that span organizational boundaries. They can work as a member of an Agile team, in a consultative / supporting role across many teams, or in a more strategic role helping to shape the future of technology and innovation within the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement and maintain new features and capabilities while continuously improving the quality of our products and services
  • Follow industry and organizational best practices and standards, and help to lead company communities of practice to continuously refine and communicate them. Champion a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Achieve operational excellence by optimizing and automating processes and designing high quality, resilient, reliable, and supportable solutions
  • Keep up with technology trends and innovations in your field(s) of practice
  • Provide operational support and expert-level troubleshooting for the company’s products and services
  • Maintain appropriate controls and documentation to ensure compliance with all company and regulatory requirements
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and/or training as needed to other members of the company’s engineering community
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance related to your field(s) of expertise to one or more Agile teams
  • Actively foster a culture of engineering excellence across engineering teams and communities of practice
  • Help to define the long-term vision for one or more products and domains, and help to lead the technical execution towards that vision
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with operations and engineering teams across the IT organization
  • Seek opportunities for re-use and collaboration across teams to improve processes and capabilities that exceed the scope of a single team
  • Operate as a trusted advisor, establishing yourself as a company-wide go-to resource for specific technologies, topics, or domains
  • Actively identify and sponsor internal talent and assist with recruiting and evaluation of external talent
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ten+ years of technology experience in a combination of engineering, architecture, and/or management roles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to work in a highly-collaborative environment.
  • Advanced understanding and significant experience with modern software development practices, tools.
  • Knowledge and significant experience with Git and GitHub.
  • Advanced understanding of object oriented and functional software design.
  • Strong understanding of IT security best practices.
  • Deep expertise in one or more technical and/or functional domains relevant to the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and organizations in the delivery of strategic and complex technical initiatives.

Total Base Pay Range 121,900.00 - 262,100.00 USD Annual

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
