Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Hourly Project Assistant I will assist researchers to conduct surveillance of heavy metals exposures. The position will be located within the New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Occupational Health and Injury Prevention which maintains several public health surveillance registries including the Heavy Metals Registry (HMR) which collects information on New York State residents and workers who have been tested for arsenic, cadmium, lead and/or mercury. The results from these tests are sent to a database and are reviewed regularly for surveillance and monitoring of elevated results and exposure sources. Follow-up via mailed letters and telephone interviews are conducted to investigate potential exposure sources. The Hourly Project Assistant I will assist with communicating with patients reported to the registry, entering and coding data into the registry database online, contacting external agencies including clinician and laboratory offices to verify reports, creating, and maintaining relevant spreadsheets, sending mailed correspondence, calculating various occupational health indicators, and other appropriate related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Current undergraduate student pursuing a health sciences/public health/social sciences major.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently a sophomore/junior student in college.

  • Experience providing customer service/cold calling.

Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 08/01/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.


Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
