Lumentum is seeking a dynamic Thailand Trade Leader to help drive the company’s Global Trade Compliance strategy in Thailand. This position sits within Lumentum’s Global Trade Organization, part of the Legal team, and serves as the primary country-level trade authority supporting Thailand’s import and export compliance and operations, with opportunity to support activities across ASEAN locations.

This high-impact role will lead Thailand trade operations and support implementation of Global Trade Compliance program enhancements, ensuring compliance with Thai customs, export control, sanctions, and Board of Investment (BOI) requirements. The ideal candidate brings deep practical experience managing trade operations in Thailand, particularly in a high-volume manufacturing environment, and can translate regulatory requirements into efficient, compliant business practices.

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and oversee end-to-end Thailand trade operations, including import/export processes, documentation, licensing, and compliance.
  • Serve as the primary trade partner to Thailand manufacturing site, ensuring uninterrupted material flow for production while maintaining strict compliance standards.
  • Oversee trade compliance activities managed by contract manufacturers in Thailand and other ASEAN locations.
  • Partner closely with supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, procurement, and customs brokers to ensure timely, efficient, and compliant movement of raw materials, capital equipment, and finished goods.
  • Collaborate closely with logistics and BOI teams to resolve shipment delays, customs clearance issues, BOI-related discrepancies, and regulatory challenges impacting Thailand operations.
  • Establish and monitor Thailand trade operations KPIs, drive reporting discipline, and lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business and compliance objectives.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Oversee Thai export classifications, HS codes, customs valuation, origin determinations, and import/export licensing.
  • Support ongoing compliance with Thailand BOI approvals, including conditions related to duty exemptions, raw material usage, reporting, audits, and post-import controls.
  • Monitor, interpret, and advise on Thai trade regulations, including Customs Act, BOI regulations, export controls, sanctions, and other laws impacting Thailand manufacturing and trade activities.
  • Act as the primary interface with Thai Customs and other government agencies for licenses, approvals, audits, inquiries, and inspections.
  • Identify and assess trade compliance risks in collaboration with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, finance, and procurement teams, providing practical, Thailand-specific guidance.

Program Development & Governance

  • Support deployment and localization of Lumentum’s global trade compliance program within Thailand, ensuring alignment with corporate policy, Thai regulations, and operational realities of a manufacturing site.
  • Develop and deliver targeted Thailand-specific trade compliance training, including BOI compliance, customs processes, and export control awareness, in coordination with the Global Trade Compliance team.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, government authorities, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other third-party service providers supporting Thailand operations.

Innovation & Strategic Contribution

  • Champion automation, system enhancements, and digital tools to improve trade compliance, BOI reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency for Thailand manufacturing flows.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to site leadership and regional trade leadership on strategic initiatives such as capacity expansion, new product introductions, supplier changes, and manufacturing footprint decisions in Thailand.
  • Support business growth while safeguarding Lumentum’s regulatory standing and reputation in Thailand.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10–15+ years of experience in trade operations, customs compliance, export controls, and international trade, with significant hands-on experience in Thailand strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, JD, LLM, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Thai required; additional language skills a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of Thai customs regulations, BOI requirements, export controls, and import/export compliance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to make complex compliance judgments while enabling manufacturing and supply chain continuity.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with ability to work effectively with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, finance, and legal teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including influencing without authority, driving change, and balancing compliance rigor with business needs.
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days/week in Pathum Thani, Thailand.
