What this role is about:
We’re seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a highly innovative team building the next wave of intelligent emergency technology. In this role, you’ll design and develop modern full stack applications and systems that ensure critical information reaches telecommunicators and responders quickly, accurately, and reliably in their most urgent moments. You’ll work hands-on across distributed systems, real-time data delivery, and AI-driven features that help public safety receive, interpret, and act on information faster. What you’ll do: 

• Drive the architecture, design, and implementation of a system for managing deployed customer solutions at scale
• Work with a small, nimble team responsible for discovering and sharing new ways to rapidly build and release software
• Lead strategic architectural decisions, help drive alignment, and optimize applications for performance, scalability, and observability
• Be AI-forward and curious—investigate, test, and apply emerging technologies to plan, execute, and validate projects, rethink processes, and share best practices that help the team work smarter and deliver more impactful solutions
• Actively participate in code reviews and pair programming sessions, sharing knowledge, championing best practices, and contributing to the continuous improvement of team processes
• Drive improvements by rethinking and reinventing our practices, processes, and systems to make them smarter, faster, and more impactful
• Identify opportunities to assess and enhance current applications, including refactoring code and upgrading technologies used
• Leverage modern AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor or similar) to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and raise the overall impact of the team
• Play a key role in transforming how products are built and delivered at RapidSOS by shaping and implementing new architecture that enables faster, more scalable, and more reliable solutions

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate: 

• 5+ years of professional backend or full stack software development experience with deep expertise in Python and/or Node
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and delivering comprehensive end-to-end solutions in a cloud environment (preferably AWS)
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases and with message bus or event-driven systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS)
• Experience building AI-driven features or using AI tools to enhance acceleration of development, and is proactive about leveraging emerging technologies
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; is a team player with a positive attitude who can also work independently as needed
• Highly self-motivated; ability to adapt and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of ownership
• Strong proficiency in coding best practices – ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code 
• Demonstrated expertise in problem solving – from troubleshooting issues to debugging a large codebase
• Thrives in operating in fast-moving environments with evolving objectives and ambiguous milestones, taking ownership and initiative to deliver results
• Ability and willingness to collaborate in-person a few times per quarter, or as needed

Nice-to-have experience (but not required!):

• Experience with managing cloud infrastructure and writing infrastructure-as-code
• Proficiency with real-time communication technologies such as WebSockets
• Experience in working in an agile, iterative engineering environment

Starting pay for a successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include experience, relevant skills, training, education, location, business needs, or market demands. The salary range for this role is $155,000 - $185,000. This role will also be eligible to receive equity options. #LI-Remote
