Summary
Build and operate AI native, mission critical SAP HANA database platforms by combining deep SAP HANA database administration expertise with agentic AI capabilities (LLMs + tools + retrieval + evaluation). This role focuses on intelligent, autonomous ready database operations—predicting issues before impact, automating corrective actions, optimizing performance continuously, and enabling self healing behaviors—while ensuring security, reliability, and compliance across enterprise landscapes.

Core Responsibilities
1) SAP HANA Database Administration & Lifecycle Management
Administer SAP HANA databases across development, quality, and production environments.
Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, patches, revisions, and database migrations with minimal disruption.
Manage database start/stop, system replication, backups, restores, and recovery operations.
2) Performance Tuning & Resource Optimization
Monitor and tune HANA memory, CPU, disk, and I/O utilization to meet performance SLAs.
Analyze expensive statements, execution plans, and workload patterns to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
Optimize data distribution, partitioning, and table management strategies.
3) High Availability, Backup & Disaster Recovery
Implement and operate HANA system replication, backup, and recovery strategies aligned with business RTO/RPO objectives.
Regularly test failover and recovery procedures to ensure operational readiness.
Design resilient database configurations that minimize downtime and data loss.
4) Security, Compliance & Data Protection
Enforce database level security: users, roles, privileges, encryption, auditing, and secure connectivity.
Support regulatory and compliance requirements through controlled configurations and traceable operations.
Implement data protection and privacy controls for sensitive enterprise data.
5) AI Native Database Operations (Intelligent DBA)
Build database operations agents that analyze telemetry (metrics, logs, alerts, SQL behavior) to:
o Detect anomalies and early warning signs of degradation.
o Recommend or execute pre approved tuning and corrective actions (cleanup, reorganization, parameter adjustments).
Use retrieval grounded intelligence drawing from runbooks, historical incidents, configuration baselines, and performance guides to ensure AI recommendations are accurate and auditable.
Enable conversational diagnostics for DBAs and architects (e.g., why is memory usage spiking , what changed after the last deployment ).
6) Predictive Monitoring & Self Healing Patterns
Implement predictive alerting for capacity exhaustion, performance regression, and instability.
Design self healing workflows with safeguards: automated remediation, verification checks, rollback logic, and human approvals for high impact actions.
Continuously improve detection and remediation accuracy using feedback loops.
7) Quality Engineering & Evaluation Loops (DB + AI)
Define KPIs for database health, stability, and AI effectiveness (false alerts, tuning accuracy, MTTR reduction).
Establish evaluation harnesses using simulated incidents, golden configurations, and historical workloads.
Continuously refine AI prompts, tools, and automation logic based on real production outcomes.
8) Collaboration & Platform Evolution
Partner with Basis, application, integration, and infrastructure teams to ensure end to end system reliability.
Support platform modernization initiatives including cloud, hybrid, and multi region HANA deployments.
Maintain clear operational documentation and enablement for sustainable operations.

Primary Skills (AI Native Must Have)
Strong hands on expertise in SAP HANA database administration.
Deep understanding of HANA internals: memory management, persistence, performance tuning, and replication.
Proven experience operating high availability, business critical database environments.
AI native capability: tool augmented automation, retrieval grounded diagnostics, evaluation loops, and safe action boundaries.

Secondary / Strongly Beneficial Skills
Experience with SAP HANA on cloud and hybrid infrastructures.
Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and automation frameworks used in enterprise database operations.
Knowledge of enterprise security, compliance, and data protection standards.
Scripting or automation skills to support operational tooling.

What This Role Does Not Center On
Training or fine tuning foundation AI models.
Reactive, manual database administration without intelligence or automation.
