The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant> on a 24-month contract at the Centre for Research in Child Development.

Project Title: Study on the Pilot Program to Increase MTL Exposure in MOE Kindergartens (PRIME-MK)

Project Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the impact of two newly introduced Mother Tongue Language (MTL) teaching models in MOE Kindergartens—Model A, which involves an extended 30 minutes of MTL instructional time, and Model B, which integrates the extended MTL time with an English-MTL Tandem Teaching approach—on children’s MTL learning outcomes and interest.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with Honours or above preferably in Social Science, Linguistics, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English and Tamil is required, to conduct data collection and analysis in both languages.

• Familiar with the Singapore education system
• Familiar with qualitative and quantitative research methods
• Proficient in using at least one statistical software package (e.g., SPSS) 
• Experience in conducting research in schools
• Experience in coordination and conduct of data collection and organization
• Experience in analysing quantitative and qualitative data
• Possess strong interpersonal communication, writing and language skills 
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Able to work cooperatively in a team environment

Responsibilities:

• Planning, preparation, and implementation of data collection
• Data cleaning and coding
• Synthesising of information from research findings
• Preparation of presentation materials
• Liaising with stakeholders
• Other tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator / Co-PIs
