Job Summary:

Geisinger is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Trauma Surgeon to join our nationally recognized team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center serving northeastern Pennsylvania.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-acuity, high-volume trauma program supporting a growing regional population, delivering comprehensive trauma and surgical critical care in a collaborative, physician-led environment.

Job Duties:

Practice Highlights
  • Level I Trauma Center with consistent year-over-year growth in trauma volume
  • Full-spectrum trauma care including:
    • Dedicated OR time and access to robotic assisted surgery
    • Trauma alerts, consults, and discharges 
    • Coverage of trauma medical-surgical floors 
  • Integrated Emergency General Surgery (EGS) model
  • Weekday coverage (Monday–Friday) with shared weekend responsibilities
  • 24/7 trauma coverage model with strong multidisciplinary support 
  • Opportunity to provide primary surgical critical care for complex patients
  • Stable and growing program with sustained patient volumes over multiple years
Position Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care to trauma patients across the continuum (ED, ICU, inpatient, and discharge)
  • Respond to trauma activations and surgical consults
  • Perform emergency general surgery procedures
  • Deliver surgical critical care management for complex patients
  • Participate in a shared call and coverage rotation
  • Collaborate closely with Emergency Medicine, ICU teams, surgical subspecialists, and hospital staff
Academic & Programmatic Opportunities
As a Level I Trauma Center, our program includes strong academic and community engagement expectations:
  • Participate in clinical research initiatives
  • Engage in teaching opportunities with residents and learners
  • Contribute to community outreach and education, including:
    • EMS and first responder engagement
    • Public education programs such as Stop the Bleed
    • Participation in ATLS and critical care education programming 
Qualifications
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Trauma Surgery / Surgical Critical Care
  • Eligible for Pennsylvania medical licensure
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care
  • Interest in academic engagement, research, and program development preferred
