About the Team
We are a small, independent engineering team within Elsevier, with members located in Bosnia and the United States. Despite our size, we have full autonomy in decision-making and collaborate closely with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization. We maintain and extend one of Elsevier’s leading nursing health education web applications, helping faculty create engaging, focused learning experiences through custom quizzes and Elsevier’s extensive content library.

About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer - Java Fullstack , you will be responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions using Angular and supporting back-end services in NodeJS. You’ll help set technical direction, contribute to architectural decisions, and work closely with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
This is a hands-on role that requires deep technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to best practices in coding and testing. You’ll be expected to take ownership of your work and contribute to the stability, scalability, and performance of our applications.
Responsibilities
- Develop scalable, high-availability systems using Angular 8+, TypeScript, NodeJS with Express, HTML/CSS, and MariaDB.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs.
- Collaborate with distributed teams and communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Apply test-driven development (TDD) and ensure good code coverage.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum development processes.
- Use tools like Git/GitHub, JIRA, and Confluence for collaboration and tracking.
- Analyze and resolve complex bugs to maintain product stability and quality.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proven expertise in Angular, NodeJS, and related technologies.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Experience with TDD and Agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with collaboration tools and version control systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team
