The Project Accountant is responsible for fulfilling the project accounting and cost accounting requirements for projects, including day-to-day interface with project management, client and contract personnel.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Accounting: Reconcile all project activity ensuring all client billing and vendor costs related to pass-through and out-of-pocket costs.

  • Balance sheet reconciliations – ensure work-in-process and pre-bill accounts on the balance sheet accounts are reconciled with adequate commentary along with aging.     

  • Billing and Invoicing: Work with our billing teams to manage project billings, ensuring timely invoicing and collection of payments from clients. 

  • Cost Control: Investigate variances in project costs and implement best practice to streamline financial processes.

  • Month End Close: Execute on all month-end responsibilities within expected timelines. Ensure all related expenses are accurately posted to projects prior to the end of the month. Review and maintain balance sheet accounts (WIP, Pre-bill) for respective projects and assist revenue accounting team with accrued and deferred balances.

  • Project Set Up: Maintain project structures and oversee project setup within financial system in accordance with corporate policies. Review contracts to ensure proper set up of contract type, billing, Budget, etc.

  • Project Closure: Ensure all projects are closed within the system to prevent future transaction posting. Ensure all balance sheet accounts are cleared/closed out (A/R, deferred, unbilled, WIP, etc.).

  • Client Team Support: Partner with Project Managers and other business team members, providing excellent customer service and project data. Meet regularly with Project managers and business team members and provide recurring, valuable insights into financial performance and document any gaps or changes to project plans.

  • Audit support: Engage with internal and external auditors by ensuring proper audit support is maintained and provided.

  • Internal Controls: Follow all established internal controls processes by ensuring compliance with the framework set forth by the Group.

  • Reporting: Distribute standardized reporting to assist business teams with client and project management

  • Other Ad hoc Projects and Requests

Key Skills/ Capabilities

  • Finance Graduate/Postgraduate/Semi qualified Accountant with 6-8 years of experience in Finance and Accounting related activities.

  • Excellent change management skills

  • Advance Excel Skills

  • Strong, effective written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to resolve complex operational and accounting issues

  • Highly motivated, self-starter

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines

  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment

  • Experience with Nexelus and MS Dynamics 365 a plus
