As the Procurement Officer, you will manage sourcing, purchasing, and vendor relationships to ensure the timely, cost-effective delivery of goods and services that support NGNRI’s research and operations. You will establish and optimize procurement processes, oversee vendor selection and performance, and ensure compliance with relevant policies and standards. Working closely with scientific and operational teams, the successful candidate will support the acquisition of laboratory equipment, consumables, and specialized services. This is a critical enabling role, balancing cost, quality, and reliability to ensure NGNRI’s research programs run efficiently and without interruption.

 

About the role 

  • Develop and implement procurement policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with NGNRI’s operational needs 

  • Manage end-to-end procurement processes, including vendor identification, sourcing, negotiation, purchasing, and contract administration 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers of laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, and services 

  • Support scientific teams in identifying appropriate vendors and sourcing specialized research materials 

  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of critical items to support ongoing research and operations 

  • Monitor and control purchasing budgets, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies 

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable regulatory standards 

  • Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and documentation 

  • Collaborate with MSU, HFH, and other partners where shared procurement or vendor arrangements are applicable 

  • Evaluate vendor performance and manage supplier risk 

  • Support inventory planning and coordination where applicable 

  • Provide reporting and analysis on procurement activities to leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, preferably in a scientific, healthcare, academic, or nonprofit environment 

  • Familiarity with laboratory procurement, including scientific equipment, reagents, and specialized services, is strongly preferred 

  • Experience negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships 

  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, compliance, and best practices 

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

  • Proficiency in procurement systems and standard office tools 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Experience working in a regulated or grant-funded environment is an asset 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field preferred 

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CPSM, CPPB) are an asset 

  • Equivalent experience will be considered
