RSM US Corporate tax helps Canadian and foreign multi-national businesses and privately held companies navigate the complex tax regime in the US. This includes helping with initial structuring considerations when expanding business into the US, annual tax return compliance requirements from both a federal and state perspective, applicability of tax saving opportunities from credits, incentives and other tax law changes, repatriating cash from the US in a tax efficient manner and planning for possible exit strategiesAdditionally, our group also assists Canadian citizens with FIRPTA related filings, Form 1099s for contractor payments, Form 1042s for any FDAP type payments and other cross-border matters.  
As a Tax Senior Manager for RSM you will be responsible for the following job duties which are focused around three core concepts (Technical & Quality Expertise, People & Talent Management, and Client Service/Business Development):
  • Have the ability to review complex 1120s, 1065s, 1120-F branch and treaty-based returns
  • Have to ability to review SALT returns
  • Handle all aspects of the client needs from sending PBC requests to sending the final bill
  • Serve as a Career Advisor, mentor or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback – approximately 10- 20% of your time
  • Train and develop staff members – approximately 10-20% of your time
  • Provide detailed review and analysis of complex tax returns including reviewing PFICs, 8865s, 8858s, 1042s, 1099s, 5471s, 5472s etc.
  • Work on multiple complex issues while communicating in a non-technical manner to facilitate communication between the client and the service team while managing the risk for both the client and the firm
  • Serve as the Tax client service coordinator for appropriate clients
  • Advise clients on a full spectrum of corporate tax services, including planning, research, compliance, and general mergers and acquisitions activities
  • Reviewing research findings and ensure conclusions are consistent with firm policies and professional standards
  • Assist with new business development, extended service and tax issue recognition for existing clients
  • Manage corporate client needs with respect to tax services and federal and state tax compliance
  • Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Some travel may be required

Basic Qualifications:
  • BA/BS Degree – preferably in Accounting or related field of study
  • CPA, JD, LLM, or EA
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Public Accounting
  • Ability to work closely with clients to answer questions or to collect necessary information for tax service requirements
  • Experience with one or more of the following: S-Corps, C-Corps, or Partnerships
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of tax code and technical aspects of tax preparation and compliance
  • Strong technical skills in accounting and tax preparation, industry specialization a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience preparing or reviewing accounting for income taxes in accordance with ASC 740’s
  • Experience in dealing with international tax matters a plus

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $81,500 - $130,500

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
