Position Summary

Position performs pulmonary function studies on patients in the clinical laboratory setting in accordance with ATS technical standards and guidelines. Testing includes both outpatient and occasional inpatient. Pulmonary function tests results are discussed with medical provider and are monitored by the supervisor and medical director of the pulmonary function lab. Additional responsibilities extend to patient scheduling, billing, cleaning and quality control of all equipment.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain patient privacy at all times. Provide patients with clear and accurate information.
  • Interacts with patients, staff, and physicians to ensure appropriate patient care and effective teamwork.
  • Prepares, maintains, and calibrates PFT and lab equipment.
  • Collects test samples, performs initial test analysis and advises staff on findings.
  • Performs test such as spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, methacholine challenge, exercise challenge from bronchospasm, cardiopulmonary stress test, and other diagnostic test according to the American Thoracic Society (ATS) guidelines.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Assists in billing processes and data entry.
  • Schedules patients for PFT appointments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$27.00 - $41.87 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
